Michigan Women's Hoops

We’re pretty sped up when we do get across the half court.

Refs. Jeebus. Not helping.

I’m figuring the players are starting to get tired due to injuries but these past two games. Woof

A press break seems more like a fundamental breakdown. When osu plays aggressive close cover I always think it’s better to put them on their heels rather than pause or pass back

Team won’t do anything this year. Bummer.

One of the country’s sixteen best in a rebuilding year; I don’t quite get this comment. Get Laila back, do damage in the NCAAs.

With Laila they are a top 16 team, yes. We don’t know her status is the thing.

She’s not playing knee out for the year. Team get bounce on Thursday of big ten tourney next week.

Oh shoot. Is that official?

No, it’s not.

If you search by this poster’s posts in this thread you’ll find 3 years of complaining about the state of the program and wishing Arico would be fired

Maybe not the person to listen to

Some negatives are baked into every play style - like MSU used to accept turnovers as a cost of playing fast, etc

I think we can accept that turnovers are kind of baked into our play style at this stage

Does the same thing on MGoBlog with every sport.

Yeah, arico seems to take high TOs as a trade off for some other stuff.

I can’t get over the fact that we let Rikki Harris – averaging 6.9 ppg as a 24% shooter from 3 and 60% shooter at the stripe – put up a career high 23 points on 3/4 from 3 and 6/8 from the line. Her 4th-highest scoring total this season also came against Michigan.

Really missing Laila on both sides of the ball right now. She was in a knee brace but did throw passes and shoot free throws in sweats today during warmups. Doesn’t seem likely that she’s back at any point this year based on how gingerly she was shooting FTs, but we can hope. Such a bummer as it likely seriously hampers their postseason potential.

Yeah, they really miss Laila, especially against this tremendous and relentless pressure applied by the Buckeyes. Ohio State is the best pressure defensive team in the country, and despite working on the press break all weak in practice, our ladies just couldn’t handle it. Frustrating for fans, but even moreso for our players and coaches.

It’s definitely a bad matchup for Michigan every time. Ohio State plays great pressure D and Michigan’s bugaboo has always been turnovers. Yesterday was particularly rough, but not having Laila on the court to help break down the press was especially difficult. Add that to the fact that Ohio State was especially grabby toward the ball and you get 27 turnovers.

Hopefully the ladies can win these last two and then maybe get revenge against the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Tournament. I think if they do that they will still be a top-16 seed in the tournament.:crossed_fingers:t2:

On another note, it was great to see people show up to support the ladies last night. About half of the men’s basketball team was there along with Juwan Howard, Jim Harbaugh, and Franz Wagner.

At this stage I’m not hoping for much unless they get Laila back in operation - if they can get her back I’m much less concerned about losing a seed line, as I think they’ll still be able to make a little noise.
