Michigan Women's Hoops

Sounds like a good plan to me!

Draft starting now. Naz projected to be on the bubble of the first round in the latest mocks I’ve seen.

Second round starting and Naz still not picked yet. Not surprising considering her size and lack of perimeter game right now. Hopefully gets picked soon.

Glad she went. Was really hoping she’d slot into the late first. Good luck Naz!

Same. I think last summer, she was projected as a top-5. I guess that, just like the NBA, they want bigs who can step out and make the 3. She only attempted 6 her whole time at Michigan, and didn’t make any. She showed that she could hit the 14-footer this past season, though. I think her hustle and rebounding will help her make the team and get minutes. Hopefully, she can add the outside shot a little.

It’s a shame that the WNBA is so small. And a real shame that Detroit lost their team. I’d love to see them try to expand to 16 or 18 teams, as it seems like there’s a rise in interest. This article says that the TV ratings were the highest since 2008. I’d also love to see them move their season back a month or so. I was surprised that the draft was so close to the end of the college season. Not having a combine and no Summer League seems detrimental not only to the incoming players, but also a missed marketing opportunity.

I honestly wasn’t much of a fan for the league’s first 5-6 years. I liked Cheryl Swoopes when she was in college, so I did watch some games back when she was with the Comets (another team that should be brought back) but I didn’t really into the league as a whole. Then my interest grew with the Shock’s rise. I was also a fan of Swin Cash when she was at UConn, so her going to Detroit helped. While watching, I even grew to appreciate former-Buckeye, Katie Smith. I was living in LA, so I really only caught the national games. A sport is always more interesting when you have players and a team to root for. While I liked Sue Bird at UConn and Candace Parker at UT, they weren’t enough of a draw for me to watch the WNBA that much since the Shock left. Now, I once again have somebody to root for. I also have a greater appreciation for the game.

It doesn’t look like Atlanta will be on ESPN/ABC at all this season, but CBS and NBATV are likely to have some Dream games. I’ll be watching this season.

Didn’t play much at all due to a hand injury. But a 6’1" guard that was a heralded recruit. Pair her with Phelia, that’d have to be one of the bigger backcourts in WBB.

Her ESPN evals say “athletic guard that attacks the rim” pretty consistently. Please please please. Taylor Bigby 2021 High School Girls' Basketball Profile - ESPN

Any idea on next assistant coach could see dunston? Former player

I don’t see their schedule really changing because both sides have little incentive - the WNBA can keep it staggered from the men mostly, and from the players side it allows them to play in far more lucrative foreign leagues (a situation rife with problems, as the Britney Griner situation illustrates, and an inequity that needs to be fixed). More and more girls are playing basketball and we produce as a nation more and more high level players (womens college ball is still pretty stratified but much deeper than it was). You would think that would drive an expansion, but there’s always the monetary investment aspect, which few seem willing to make with any women’s sport.

It seems like a no-brainer to me to start the season in mid-June. You only have MLB (and maybe the USFL?) to compete with on a nightly basis. Now, the post-season would be up against the start of the NFL and College Football seasons. However, I’d think that if the league is building up more regular-season interest, then that will still carry into the post-season.

And, by starting a month later, you do give WNBA teams a chance to evaluate players more and a chance for players to prove their value.

I don’t know if this was a few months ago, but:

I guess Macy was actually the first commit:

A top-30 player, and a player who’s mentioned as the best player in Michigan sounds like a nice start to the class.

A lefty:

I thought KBA was recruiting poorly because we couldn’t get in state talent?

They’re all going somewhere else! Unless they come here!

Sister of Jillian Brown from NW. I don’t think she’s a top 30 player in the country. Unless I missed it, she’s nowhere near to be found in the recruiting service.

What you missed is JD1 saying the top 30 player committed to Michigan is Taylor Woodson.

I read the top but missed the quote. My bad. That’s a good recruiting win by KBA. More of this please and not let the elite in-state recruits go out of state.
