Spoelstra deserves much of the credit. He made Duncan believe in his shot. Beilein’s system wasn’t set up to create these opportunities–and I’m not sure it was reasonable to do otherwise.
I don’t want this to come across as a Beilein/Spoelstra/Duncan debate - they all deserve credit for where he is today. He was a nobody D3 kid that became a starter at Michigan. Then he became a heavy rotation guy in the NBA. Kudos to all.
With that being said, I think both coaches have pushed him to shoot-shoot-shoot. There are stories from both teams where that’s been the message. It does feel like Beilein’s offense was designed to get open shots for Duncan whereas Spoelstra’s offense is designed to help Duncan get his own open shots.
Yeah totally - Duncan is obviously never in the position to impress Spoelstra if Beilein doesn’t find him and coach him for 4 years
Obviously Duncan himself deserves a ton of credit.
When you say that, I think about Reggie Miller. He dunked occasionally, and wasn’t the worst athlete in the world, but he generally lacked all the qualities one would associate with a “great athlete.” But he could get his shot off on anyone, and he was an all-time great.
Yes, Duncan was just an option under Beileins offense. Obviously there was an emphasis to give him the ball whenever he had a decent look, but they were coming up the court and letting Walton/Simpson make reads operating out of the ball screen.
Miami runs a lot of possessions through DR. Just have him come off a screen and either shoot it or mediately start operating a two man game with Bam. He really is tremendous doing that. The highlights of them just passing back and forth before he eventually pump fakes the defenders then just passes it to Bam and resetting for an easy three are awesome.
Yeah, sometimes, I wonder if Duncan is AS plug & play as he’s made out to be. Obviously his combination of cardio and fast release (and accuracy) is hard to find but it seems like he’s also paired with a center who happens to be both one of the best screeners and passers at his position. To a degree I think Bam and Duncan both have pretty much unique skill sets that greatly complement each other.
Miami also has the personnel where they pretty much always play TWO center sized guys and don’t need to sacrifice shooting, as Meyer Lemons and Olynyk can both shoot, and Bam is center-sized with the agility to guard wings, which means offensively he gets to mash smaller players.
I am sure it is an autocorrect thing, but got a good chuckle from this
I’ve actually called him that since he sulked his way through his sophomore year at Illinois.
Good on you! I might adopt it aswell
Meadowlark’s nephew.
Butler also puts pressure on D and Jimmy has been giving up the ball to the in the playoffs.
We’re not yet halfway through the 3rd quarter and Caris has 23 points and 10 assists on 10-15 shooting.
Caris wound up with 27 points, 13 assists, and 4 boards. Also, a W over the Clippers.
27/3/4 and a W for TIMMAY tonight. Trey chipped in with a solid 14 & 4 assists.
Some of these bubble games are wild - in that game, Luka, Mitchell, and Gobert didn’t play. The Jazz played 13 guys all at least 15 mins.
That’ll happen with back to back games in a situation where there isn’t much to play for for most teams. Big reason that the Suns have been on this crazy run too.
Yeah definitely - teams are approaching these games with extremely different priorities, and they’re really only truly meaningful for a handful with really only 1 playoff spot in play and there not being such a thing as home court.
You have the Blazers, Suns, Grizzlies trying to win everything, most of the middle of the west bouncing between “I guess it would be nice to move to the 4 seed” and sheer apathy, and the Bucks literally dividing the number of minutes in a game by 13 rostered players.
Giannis just headbutted Moe and got ejected lol
Overshadowing Moe moving his feet on defense to draw the foul on Giannis in the first place
That’s got to draw a multigame suspension, right? Moe had his hands down and Giannis delivered a blow to the head. Maybe some acting by Moe, but I think Giannis crossed the line with that one.
