Michigan Players in the NBA

Yeah his challenge isn’t really that he’s bad at anything it’s that he’s little and doesn’t excel (over a series of games) at anything

He shoots fine, not great
Can facilitate for others ok, but not that well
Can’t score at the rim
Too small to defend anyone

weak defense was what prevented him playing more minutes at knicks

Caris has a 30-piece going against Moe’s Wiz. Moe has 2 points in 7 minutes.

Good to see Jamal back. Too bad he got hurt after 6 minutes in. Hopefully it’s not too serious.

Four shots and 3 assists in five minutes of action. Wow.

Pre game odds on D.J. Wilson leading the Bucks in shot attempts today?

Some huge shots by Duncan Robinson down the stretch tonight. Fun to watch him in big spots for the Heat.

That Duncan is able to even get up as many threes as he does is crazy. You watch and the amount of gravity he has is elite, the other team is hell bent on not letting him shoot. He creates a lot of hockey assists with how much attention he draws. I’ll never not be amazed at how damn good he became.

Yeah if you go back to his first summer league when he got the two-way, on the midst of his praise, Spoelstra repeatedly said “we need to get him taking 8 to 9 a game” and they clearly worked very hard in the g league and at the NBA level on training it.

I will admit to some frustration that he went from “pretty good college three point shooter” to “the best NBA three point shooter not named Curry or Harden”.

I certainly agree but I think Duncan was late to mature. He certainly is stronger thanks to Sandman and has now grown into his body. Some kids just don’t have the strength and muscle memory while they’re evolving. It’s difficult lifting weights while finding the feel of the ball as you’re training. He’s a pleasure to watch and his teammates have so much confidence in him.

I think that’s certainly part of it, and obviously most players keep improving in their early NBA career - I also just think their was a significant attitudinal shift in him as well, he was nowhere near this aggressive as a shooter, and sometimes seemingly suffered in confidence.

He’s certainly talked about how even though Beilein wanted him to shoot, the whole effort in the Heats organization has upped his attitude to another level. Beilein didn’t set him up to take as difficult of shots as he is now, the agressiveness is at least a little due to coaching.

When I watch Duncan now I feel like the whole idea of who is athletic and who is not is. . . damned subjective, subject to whatever phase of growth or development of who you’re looking at at the time. For me the way he rises to that first shot in the Moorhead video above is absolutely “athletic.”

Yeah to my eye he seems to have mastered (already) the Kyle Korver/JJ Redick toolkit of being able to go full speed for every offensive possession. When you have a series of screens to run around it’s amazing how often sprinting can get you space.
