Danny Green stinks, Caruso yes was a big loss.
Re: Caruso, I’m not a close watcher but if they were trying to save $$ seems like there are ways teams figure out to do that kind of thing? Just letting a contract go once you’re operating over the cap seems bananas to me. And should’ve been the kind of thing LeBron made sure would never happen under his watch?
Perfectly average NBA player willing to play for the MLE is a dang bargain, yeah. Would guess the going rate on that production is like $15M a year?
Dunno about Lebron’s specific role, but they played really well together (like literally the best +/- in the league when on the court together), and Lakers fans were screaming that the org essentially prioritized THT over Caruso last offseason.
LOL That’s pretty great.
Not even worth time discussing! Juwan’s not leaving M anytime soon per himself. Juwan said it and I believe him!
Clearly impossible. After all, he’s objectively the worst coach in the country!
I’d be much more worried about this if the kids weren’t here. No sane person would choose coaching 38 year old lebron James, the brittle brow , and the island of misfit toys for a year or two over coaching their sons at their alma mater with what could end up being the best front court in America next year.
It never ceases to amaze me how Michigan gets in the middle of this crap seems like every season. And, regardless of what Juwan [or Jim H] says or does, even the subscribers here eat up the rumors. Can we all just say in unison, “we know better” or “it’s not happening”? Because, I mean, [I believe] I know better, right?
‘According to people familiar with Howard’s situation’
According to umhoops subscribers….
…they suggested the possibility that it wouldn’t be outlandish for a coach to possibly consider coaching the most historic franchise in the NBA where his friend and top 2 player of all time is currently playing while also saying they do not think it’s likely that he leaves
you think the worst of me lol
Getting shouted out for the Lakers gig is pretty sweet. Much better than the Vikings. (Final answer.)
It sure seems like its coming one day after his kids are gone. This doesn’t seem to be like the Izzo thing where he got interest every few years and never took the leap. He will triple his salary and never again have to talk to Greg Gard or the admissions office. I just hope Jalen is right that he wants to win a ring first. As for us, the smart move is to put pieces in place. Really hope we can get Saddi into an HC spot where he can show what he’d be like, and really hope Eisley can show as a recruiter. It would be so ideal to do it that way.
Seems like the best succession plan these days is just keep the guy as an assistant. Rather than them getting sent to some random conference with a tough rebuild job they can step right into a decent situation and already have connections with current recruits and players which helps with retention and continuity.
Ala Scheyer, Davis. Compared to Wes Miller, all of the other Coach K lackeys
But idk. It’s still hard to project even if its coming in 3-4 years
Agreed, that does seem how it’s trending. You want the security of seeing that assistant thrive as an HC somewhere, and Lavall Jordan is a cautionary tale, but increasingly the pattern suggests that’s not absolutely necessary. Overall though, there’s no downside to planning for it, quietly, if you’re Warde. It’s not a situation that seems like to play out like Lloyd Carr willing to stick it out another year to give the AD time to get ducks in a row.
If it’s going to be Saddi, though, it is hard to imagine him staying another 3-4 years unless he becomes the presumptive successor and knows it. Eisely maybe a different story since he’s getting less HC interest it seems and hasn’t been as involved in recruiting.
I’m not worried about Juwan leaving any time soon. If Juwan can keep up his performances, he’s able to get any NBA job he wants, any time he wants. The job he has now isn’t something he can just leave and come back to. He will leave when he is satisfied with the job he’s done or if things turn sour.
The difficult thing about CBB is there’s not nearly as much clarity about what assistants do. Lloyd pretty clearly had no assistants current or former who were up to the task (and boy did they prove it after Lloyd left) and we had to go beyond Michigan adjacent folks to find a coach.
I think this is nominally why I prefer Eisley. Seems like he spends his time on offensive design and you’d have to say that’s been terrific during Juwan’s tenure.
That’s a solid argument. One for Saddi is his clear advantage in recruiting. I may be wrong and I’m going on who the kids say is the one they hear from on the phone, but mostly that’s been Saddi and Phil. Eisley may end up here for longer though since he was eyeing BC and they just hired a guy last year. Presume that guy is going to get 3-4 years. It does seem Eisley is doing more recruiting – again, just a guess, so anyone who knows please do feel free to correct me – so I can imagine there’s time for him to grow in that area. Even though he does seem more like a background guy than a leader.
