Jaylen Brown - Will Likely Use OV for UM

So you’d rather voice your opinion than have Jaylen play at Michigan. Interesting.

In fairness, I don’t think Matt’s comments are going to prevent Brown from playing at Michigan.

Totally agree (or at least they certainly shouldn’t), just was surprised the response wasn’t “I don’t think Brown would base a decision on my comments” or something to that effect, it was “so be it”, which has a very distinct and different meaning.

Sometimes Michigan fans can be hard on each other but having spent some time fishing for Brown rumours in a Kentucky forum I can tell you things can be much much worse.

Actually, MFAUST, I was referring to MattD, and he answered me. I agree with you, and I appreciate your gracious response. Belein IS a great shooting coach, and as Dylan says he and his staff are excellent at developing ballhandlers as well which would help Jaylen in his quest to use his left hand more effectively. I really want this kid, and I don’t think we need to sell our program short even if some people on here like to “tell it like it is”. Oh, and Windsor, I’m typically an incredibly unfair person (LOL), but I would agree, you’re right, MattD’s comments probably won’t prevent Brown from coming to Michigan, but I WILL blame MattD if he doesn’t come! Matt, I’m just kidding!

twitter saying kirk has signed with nc state... brown implications?

Link? He committed to NC State this week, but hadn’t signed an NLOI yet to my knowledge.

KentuckySportsReport @MyKSR1
Shaun Kirk has signed with NC State, per @NextCats and others. Good news or bad news for UK? Any hint for Jaylen Brown?

Not sure how reliable this information is though… None of the big guys talk about it.

Interesting indeed. Will see if it gets picked up by the other outlets.

It looks kind of weird though, because by now, I would have expected Twitter to be talking about it all over the place. It’s silent, so I’m just going to assume it’s not true (which I hope it isn’t).

–EDIT Just saw poppinfresh’s 247 link. So maybe it is true!

Kentucky 247 outlet now reporting they confirmed it. Certainly interesting, probably not helping Michigan’s case with Brown at least. Maybe they’ll move onto plan D.

Yeah this is not great to say the least… But this could be unrelated. After all not everything in college basketball revolves around Jaylen Brown  Kirk may genuinely just prefer NC State

It would certainly be heartening to believe some recruits can stick to their word and not drop everything when Kentucky comes calling.

From a DX Scouting Report of JB:
Weaknesses: -Jump-shot is still a work in progress. Was a non-shooter not too long ago and is still finding his consistency -Sometimes tries to do a little too much and forces issue, causing turnovers -Still working on his ball-handling skills. Needs to improve his left hand

Seems like that’s stuff – jump shot and ball handling – that Beilein could help him with, no?

Not in 6 months, at least not enough to make a sizeable difference in my view

Mitch McGary came in as the #2 high school player in the country and obviously wasn’t ready to immediately be a big time contributor at the college level. Less than one season with Beilein and the staff he was the tournament’s breakout star and he was projected lottery ready. I think a year in the Michigan program can help even the highest rated high school recruits.

Disagree. Mitch didn’t improve his footwork or shot during his tenure at UM - the 2 things he needed the most. He thrived in the tourney off rebounds, jumping passing lanes, passing, finishing dumpoffs - all things he was adequate in. Just got in shape and was provided more opportunity

In response to the last two points, I doubt anyone of any importance to the Jaylen Brown recruitment is going to read Matt’s comments, and I think Matt would rather voice his opinion about basketball - especially if it involves criticizing John Beilein or downplaying any of his coaching accomplishments - than do anything else, or have anything else happen, period.

As far as whether good coaching could help Jaylen Brown improve in a year, seems like it did wonders for guys like Levert and Stauskas. Since Jaylen Brown is already way ahead of those two at the same stage of his career, I’d be surprised if playing a year in our offense didn’t help him a bit. If nothing else, all the pick and roll that we run is good preparation for the NBA, where many teams run similar sets. I would also think the opportunity to work with a coach known for helping kids improve shooting, and the opportunity to play in an offense designed to create many open outside shots, would help a kid like Brown.

It goes without saying (at least, I assume it does) that it’s a two-way street - any individual player has to be receptive to the coaching and has to put in the work to improve.

Any credibility to this source?

I am hearing Jaylen Brown to #Kentucky. Again, not making the call yet, just passing along the info. #BBN #Michigan #Kansas #UNC

Very concerning but no knowledge of the source.

On a related note, the Kentucky boards are full of depressed comments about how he will inevitably go to Michigan for “shady shoe reasons.” Pot, meet kettle.

FWIW, that “StraightHoops” guy tweeted that he was hearing Diallo to KU the day before it happened. Don’t know if this was common knowledge but still a bit worrying when taken together with the Kirk news.

If you guys think Kirks decision has anything to do with Brown your Nuts. Brown isn’t worried about anyone but himself

Almost everyone had him to Kansas
