Jaylen Brown - Will Likely Use OV for UM

Even a UK staff writer with a CB pick for Michigan this morning, I mean.....

The nice thing about the crystal ball is you can see their hit/miss rate. That UK writer’s particular rate is not encouraging.

I can’t see specifically because I’m on mobile, but from yesterday, it seemed like every Kentucky insider had a hit rate of 50% or below. I took that to mean the Kentucky guys just pick Kentucky every time (which prob works out for them more often than it would for any other school). But if that’s true, and he changed it… …

I think Brown would certainly be a primary ballhandler in a half court set. In fact, that's where he is best utilized in my view. Just give the ball at the top of the key or wing and run PnR. Late game, just give him the ball, run a 1-4 and get the hell out of his way. Thats what he does. No way do you relegate a player with that type of ability to a baseline finisher. Brown is not GR3

Will also be a sure way to make sure you never land another 6ft 7in blue chipper.

Brown needs the ball in his hands, I agree. He is not an “off the ball” player.

Brown would have the ball in his hands. He’s also an elite finisher.

The thing is that by having more options you are going to make everyone better. Caris is the natural beneficiary, but even a guy like Zak or Derrick can play a supporting role more effectively if you had Brown in the mix.

Me too. They are the OSU recruiting gurus of basketball, and probably deveservedly so. OSU football recruitniks think they lead for everyone, just like UK hoops writers. They both land their fair share, so who can argue with that strategy.

That being said, I think the CB thing is a cute little gimmick that I often make fun of, just find it interesting that UK writers who generally think they will get everyone are starting to pick UM.

this means spike, dawkins, raak, duncan and donnal/wilson are coming off the bench? You mean the team that went .500 in the big ten, gained experience, let some games slip and adds a weapon or two? good lord

I’m still going to remain skeptical until proven otherwise. Refuse to set myself up for disappointment. Would rather be pleasantly surprised vs huge letdown

It’s interesting that we had no crystal ball picks until very recently. Do you guys think that has to do with the uncertainty in the scholarship situation, and now that we know for sure that we have an open one the people feel safer in picking us?

Don’t think so personally. Think the status of Austin’s scholarship has been informally known for a while and probably made it’s way around recruiting circles. I think the “certainty” aspect of it was only in the public eye.

No. The scholarship thing was never a concern, Michigan has been working with one to give for a long time.

Biggest reason is probably that UCLA out means 40% of people had the wrong crystal ball and needed to change it, so they follow the few people that had picked U-M in recent days.

It picked up steam when UCLA was dropped. The rumor is getting stronger that he is going to an Adidas school. When Kansas insiders are not feeling great about their chances along with UCLA getting dropped, has everyone now putting in their picks for UM. With a presumed top 3 by most sources being UM, UK, and Cal, we will obviously see if Adidas was a thing or not going against two Nike schools. Only Jaylen knows how much that matters. Brian Snow on Scout swears up and down that it doesn’t mean a hill of beans, and the flood of CB’s on 247 were due to the Adidas rumor picking up steam on their end.

I think the reality is that the CB picks were based more on deduction, rather than any credible information provideded by Jaylen and/or his family. Hence, my skepticism.

Steve Lorenz indicated the nature of the intel that led to the CB picks, and there is some “development” that led to the push. That said, still probably smart to be skeptical.

On the optimistic side however, Evan Daniels confirms the UK offer to Kirk.

UK insider doesn’t appear to be very confident

@UK2K_REES Eh, I think it would say more about Jaylen Brown since he's a SF, but who knows?

They were. There was an Adidas rumor yesterday, and they were doing some process of elimination, IMO.

The Shaun Kirk offer is interesting though.

When/if he commits, I am so pumped for the ensuing debates about expectations for the B10, namely how Michigan compares to IU, MSU and MD.

I will definitely be in the “Championship or bust” crowd. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself.

As is the nature of all fan sites, the excitement and potential of adding a blue chipper makes it hard to not succumb to hyperbole.

I wish this could somehow be permanently placed in the margins of every thread. Great line!

Does anybody know the scholarship situation for the other finalists? I know UK has plenty of space after their mass exodus, but what about Kansas, Cal and UNC?

And are their mumblings of the other finalists offering other guys like Shaun Kirk and (eventually) us with Kenny Williams? I would put more faith in those things than crystal balls. Not saying those schools necessarily know more, but their actions could sway his impending decision.

My biggest threats were UCLA and Kansas. One has been eliminated but Kansas is still lurking and with the way Self has gotten Wiggins, Embiid, and Oubre. Kansas is returning Seldon, Mason, Greene, Graham, Ellis, a 5 star recruit in Bragg coming in, still in the hunt for Diallo. That could be very enticing for Brown.

Yeah, Diallo announces tomorrow and it is apparently between Kansas and Kentucky. I have no idea what that will mean for us. It could be good or bad. He’s a power forward so it likely wouldn’t impact Brown’s role on either of those squads since they’ll both be stacked regardless.
