So, I just spent the past 90 minutes reading through Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, and Cal forums. The vibes I was getting were:
UK: Going to Michigan because kids don’t realize how elite UK is what how big of a mistake they are making by going to any other school.
UNC: Going to Michigan because there isn’t much available PT and how things are trending.
Kansas: Going to Michigan or Kansas. 50/50 split.
Cal: A bunch of weirdos that don’t seem to post seriously.
If JB lands him, I'll be writing him a letter of apology for doubting his recruiting.
I agree…in basketball 1 recruit can literally change the entire complexion of the team. In football development>>>>>>>>>>>>>recruiting, because you have 3 years minimum to coach a kid up.
Not only would getting Jaylen Brown be huge for next year, I can’t help but imagine that it will help to persuade other top targets that Michigan is a good place to be at.

I thought the same thing after 2012-2013, but recruiting ‘momentum’ seems to be a myth, at least as it relates to UM. I don’t think we’re viewed as a ‘cool’ environment by most kids. Winning will help us more than any ‘pitch’ we can make in my view.
So now it’s not whether JB can make an appropriate sales “pitch” that resonates with kids, it’s, rather, a matter of creating a winning environment which JB has proven he can do. Getting Jaylen Brown would certainly help in that regard! GoBlue, Jaylen! Maize 'n Blue!

Yeah, it seems UK fans are disappointed in Calipari for not landing 7 McDAA’s as they have become accustomed to. UNC could be a dark horse due to the vacancy at Tokoto’s spot, but it seems that recruiting there is tanking. You’re right that Cal blogs are strictly amateur affairs. Kansas does scare me.

Of two minds on this. I have no idea what is considered “cool” these days but the number of high-profile misses followed by pick-ups of guys who are (on the surface, at least) lucky to have any high-major interest may suggest you’re right. Also, JB’s squeaky-clean “no funny stuff” image may not be for everybody. On the other hand, a lot of recruits seem to bond with coach Jordan, the maize unis are definitely cool, and there is no cooler team in history than the Fab Five…

I realize I’m getting waaaaay ahead of myself, but IF and this is a big IF we land Brown and then miraculously land Miles after he sees what Brown is capable of doing at the 3 under JB, and then Brown stays for a 2nd year like it has been mentioned… 2016 could end up being one of the greatest Michigan basketball teams of all-time.
As is the nature of all fan sites, the excitement and potential of adding a blue chipper makes it hard to not succumb to hyperbole. With M being so visible in “losing” out on practically all of its big targets the last two years, the potential of adding a top 3 National recruit is salivating. If and when Brown does commit, I can only hope that he turns out to be a sensational player and a wonderful teammate. Because the expectations put on him by the fan base are going to be astronomical. Good luck young man, I hope you have the fortitude to persevere.

There’s a lot of truth to what you say here chezaroo. The one thing Brown will have going in his favor are his teammates. He’s surrounded by players I believe will compliment his game perfectly.
Having two Seniors who were on the Final 4 team, 2 other juniors who were on the elite 8 team, all of which are above average college basketball players will ease Brown’s transition to the college game.
It’s literally the perfect storm for Brown to succeed and the team.
Not sure the pressure on Brown will be astronomical, especially as his role is that of an athletic forward rather than a primary ball-handler in Michigan’s system.
I do think that if we had landed, say, Brunson, a lot of fans (perhaps including myself) would have demanded that he become Trey Burke from day one. But not Brown, who should complement LeVert, Irvin, and Walton.
I don’t recall too much pressure on McGary during his freshman campaign.
There will definitely be pressure on the coach and team to bounce back after last year. But a bit of pressure on Brown could actually help alleviate the immense pressure on LeVert and that’s a good thing.
I think Brown would certainly be a primary ballhandler in a half court set. In fact, that’s where he is best utilized in my view. Just give the ball at the top of the key or wing and run PnR. Late game, just give him the ball, run a 1-4 and get the hell out of his way. Thats what he does. No way do you relegate a player with that type of ability to a baseline finisher. Brown is not GR3
Yeah, you’re right and I definitely don’t see him as a Gr3 (even though I am starved for a few alley-oops after 2014-15). He’s also great in transition. But having multiple guys that can score on the court should take the pressure off. No one will expect him to do everything alone, unlike, say, Malik Newman at Mississippi State.
Adding Brown to our current lineup would aid Ricky Doyle and Zak Irvin so much its unreal. The attention Brown would draw from helpside defenders would allow Ricky easy dunks/layups, and Zak would get much cleaner looks. On the defensive end, Zak would be able to check 3s rather than 4s (much to small to check 4s).
Suspect there could be more turns in this one, but we’ll have to see.
I was originally pretty skeptical of the Jaylen Brown recruitment in general, but things have really shifted in the last couple weeks. The most recent turns have definitely been in Michigan’s favor…

Yeah, sounds like there’s some other school insiders that have been feeling slightly more optimistic as well. I hate this wait and see game. EDIT: Especially since my productivity is horrible while every refresh is a chance to get some kind of new word.
