Just read the article a bit more in depth…2 things strike me as potentially favoring UM.
First, am I interpreting this correctly to mean UM is in the lead along with Cal? Or do I have on my homer shades?
‘With Cal, I put a lot of schools on my list late that are really good educational wise like North Carolina. They came in late. Michigan came in late. Those two definitely came in late. Those are really good education schools. I want to get the most out of college. So I’m thinking schools that can get the most out of me and which schools I can get the most out of them. So I put the schools on my list first’
Second, seems Brown doesn’t want to establish a relationship with any coach until he selects his school, IE don’t call me…this would seem to favor JB because he doesn’t strike me as a guy that’s going to call you every day and beg…more of a no nonsense type of recruiter, which probably doesn’t work very well with most other kids, but apparently Brown prefers it that way.
‘I didn’t want people calling me. You can call my mom. She’ll pick up the phone and you can ask her about me. Other than that, I’m just trying to stay focused on one thing at a time. Before I was focused on my school work and winning a state championship. Now I’m focused on McDonald’s, Hoop Summit, Jordan and the national tournament. When all that ends, I will reach out to every coach. Until then I don’t really need to talk to you about how I’m doing. I already know what your school offers. I’ve been on a visit. I’ve talked to you numerous times. I know you want to build a relationship, but I’m not sure if I’m going to your school yet so I don’t want to build that relationship yet. If we are building a relationship and I go somewhere else it’s a waste of time and a waste of everyone’s energy. So I’d rather pick your school and then build a relationship.’
Kentucky and UCLA scare me the most but we do have our own unique advantages/sales pitch so if it sits just right, we could be golden.
One thing that may swing me slightly more towards optimism is if this recruitment is anything like Kam Chatman’s, the staff seems to be decent at coming in late and making a great impression, even if they seem the opposite with some of the early offers. Gonna keep fingers crossed big time on this one.
I like the sentiment but until pen touches paper and that paper says Michigan, I’m going to assume he’s not coming here. We’ve been on the wrong side of these decisions so many times, and it hurts every time. FWIW I think he’s going to UK.
Even if he doesn’t pick us (and I feel like our chances may have increased from 10% to 30% now), I like this kid. I liked PJ Dozier, too, though he didn’t pick us. From a pure basketball perspective, sure, Kentucky probably offers more than anyone else (facilities, insane fan support, great talent on your team). On the other hand, I do think our staff develops offensive talent as good or better than any staff in the country. If a guy with Brown’s athleticism entered the draft after a year (I mean, I know he says he wants to stay two years, but that’s extremely unlikely) with skill development like Stauskas’, you’re probably talking about the #1 pick in the draft, depending on whether the class has a big man like Okafor or Towns in it. And if education factors into it at all, that’s a huge plus for us. This does feel like a non-traditional recruitment of an elite player, not the “which school’s boosters are going to hook me up the best” typical situation. We’ll see. Getting just one of Brown, Langford or Battle would do wonders for the program.
The kid and family are very educated. No one will pressure them into anything.
Webb has said many times the mother is running the show. She is very grounded and looking out for her son.
What I’m interested in, is he has said out of straight loyalty he will only go to a Adidas school… In fact video, I believe as recent as today says the same. I want to see how legit that is.

This may lend suppot to that theory
Better shot W/ Ingram @Go_Heelz: @PaulBiancardi Brown's latest on his recruitment? Doesn't sound like UNC is the school. What do you think?”

Honestly, what’s been perhaps the most surprising to me about the latest round of “buzz” about Brown is that UNC doesn’t seem to be in the top 4. Sounds like it seems to be centered around UK, KU, UCLA, and UM (can’t believe I’m typing this).
If I were putting money down right now, based on “loyalty” to an Adidas school, I’d say UCLA. I hate Alford though and don’t know why people would want to play for him, but I understand it’s LA and such. shrug
My question re: Adidas is…how does that play if we’re likely to switch in a year (with an announcement this summer)? I know it’s eminently possible that Brown would wear Adidas for his full tenure here if he came here, but he also said something yesterday about maybe staying two. Would be the ultimate irony if switching to Nike cost us Brown.

Just don’t even talk like that…we will worry about that later!
Yeah, I don’t think you worry about switching to Nike after another year, because he wouldn’t even be looking at Kentucky or UNC right now if he only wanted to be on an Adidas team. Just my thought though
I hope he chooses Michigan the rationale for Kansas makes sense though. Oubre probably leaves they still return Mason, Graham, Seldon, possibly Ellis, and Alexander. Kansas was able to do it with Embiid, and Wiggins. I still think the decision of Levert is the biggest hurdle in getting Brown to Michigan.

Given the choice between the 2, I’d go with Brown…and I don’t even think its all that close to be honest. Brown just gives you so much more 2 way versatility because of his ability to guard the 2-4 spots on defense and be a good rebounder. He can play anywhere from the 1-4 on offense. I love Caris, but he’s a very good catch and shoot player, and that’s about it at this point. Brown just brings so much more to the table.
How this guy isn’t the consensus #1 player in the country is beyond me. He’s one of the best HS players I’ve ever seen.
Recent updates seem to put us in a good position but I will not believe anything until he commits somewhere. My gut tells me UK and UCLA are the schools to beat. But nobody really knows…
