I hope he chooses Michigan the rationale for Kansas makes sense though. Oubre probably leaves they still return Mason, Graham, Seldon, possibly Ellis, and Alexander. Kansas was able to do it with Embiid, and Wiggins. I still think the decision of Levert is the biggest hurdle in getting Brown to Michigan.
Given the choice between the 2, I’d go with Brown…and I don’t even think its all that close to be honest. Brown just gives you so much more 2 way versatility because of his ability to guard the 2-4 spots on defense and be a good rebounder. He can play anywhere from the 1-4 on offense. I love Caris, but he’s a very good catch and shoot player, and that’s about it at this point. Brown just brings so much more to the table.
I would agree. I like Caris and he does work hard to rebound and at times he can be good defensively. On the offensive end I just see him settle too much, he doesn’t like to drive the ball and get to the line. In fact there aren’t many players on Michigan that like to get in the lane. They shoot FT’s very well but for a team that “doesn’t like to foul” they sure don’t have a big FT discrepancy compared to their opposition. Seeing Brown I can see a more aggressive player than Levert.
I don’t know if I would call our odds a long shot. I like the fact he said that UM would be in the front runner of things, and also that he seems big on development, and realizes Beilein can develope players. If that actually is true I think we have a very good shot with him. But that’s just my take as well
“That’s a line I’m walking on and a dilemma I have for myself,” he said. "Do I want to go somewhere where I can start something, where I can be the influence to all my teammates and make them better, or do I want to go somewhere where I’m one of many, where I’m just an additive to a great team?
This has to speak well for us, no? Talent on the roster, yet can improve the team drastically year on year and potentially be one of the greatest players in program history?
If he chooses to be “the guy” and not just another player on a team filled with great players, then I truly believe UM is where he wants to go judging by his comments.
Just a heads up guys… The adidas quotes regarding Jaylen Brown are months old. I know they recirculated with the ESPN segment from Goodman and Borzello, but something to keep in mind.

And fresh from Mt. Sinai, we have the proverbial voice of reason.
The McDonald’s All-American game is tonight at 9pm EST. I’m sure some new rumors regarding Brown will fly tonight. I’m sure excited to see this guy play but not looking forward to the speculation that people will make on the broadcast, social media, etc.
Probably goes both ways–Caris might or might not want to stick around if Brown’s coming. When is a Caris decision due?
Hate this Adidas/Nike/UA BS, but really think it COULD hurt the UM here if the plan is to ditch Adidas (may be just rumor?)
I’m probably alone in thinking this, but recent Beilein teams have arguably been good because we DIDN’T have any really dominant players. I’ll be curious about the chemistry if we get someone like Brown.

Totally disagree with your last point, JB teams have NOT been truly elite until we had legitimate recruiting success.

When did he say “elite?” I took his point to be some of Beilein’s system is not having ballhogs, but rather sharing the ball. And he was wondering how Jaylen Brown’s personality and playstyle would impact that. Whether or not you agree with that point is another matter. I definitely think there’s a role on this team for Brown, and that they would be better off with him than without him.

I’ll take it a step further then, I don’t think any of JB’s teams at UM have even been good (2011-2012 was not a good team in my view) until recruiting picked up. In terms of JB’s system…I would certainly argue that Trey Burke was a ballhog/ball dominant…he dribbled the air out of the ball on a consistent basis. But I do agree that in general, I think JB may prefer a more balanced team.
That being said, I’d rather have an alpha dog in Brown vs. some middling talent that defers because he doesn’t have a choice.
DingoBlue is reading me correctly. And while it’s true that Trey dribbled too much at times, he is kind of the exception that proves the rule. Most of our stars have emerged as such in the context of the offense; that may have been a product of their not coming in, almost any of them, wildly hyped.
Of course I want Brown–he is as impressive a player I have seen us near–but I would still be wary of a situation where everyone suddenly had to stand back and watch. Beilein has arguably motivated these guys by showing how they could get buckets within a loose buy highly collaborative system. Again, they did give Trey the ball and tell him to win the game sometimes–no denying–and Brown is impressive in his savvy and intellect. (Also likely a more gifted player than Trey.) So I am not asserting that he wouldn’t work, just wondering.
I’m sure Beilein and co. shift this stuff carefully.
