I don't get why a 1 and done elite prospect would want to play go UCLA. The lack of national exposure does not help increase their status the way playing regularly on ESPN for Duke or someone else would. Also, their fanbase is embarrassingly bad for what is suppose to be a blue blood program.
I know we’re not a blue blood program, but our fan base isn’t exactly buzzing either. One bad year and the students and rich alums stop showing up!
Illinois, Wisconsin, MSU certainly aren’t blueblood programs, but their crowds are much more lively than Crisler. We have a ‘wine and cheese’ crowd
First order of business for that is redesigning the student section in Crisler. It’s pathetic right now. Having something like the Izzone would make a difference. But of course, it brings way more money to have alumns pay way more for better seats

Couldn’t agree more, having half of the student section in the upper bowl is ridiculous.
Wheeler basketball star Jaylen Brown, the consensus No. 2 senior recruit in the country, was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor traffic violations on Wednesday, according to Cobb County police.
The charges were driving on a suspended license and a stop sign violation. According to Brown’s booking sheet, the traffic stop occurred on Roswell Road in Cobb County and he was booked at 10:55 a.m. Brown was released on $1,300 bond.
FWIW… This seems pretty minor to me. I was pulled over twice in high school for rolling stop signs. Just found it funny with those pictures that we saw yesterday… Probably what we’d all be looking like after that.

As I referenced before…if you have to make a 6 month stop, what place in the country offers the combination of beautiful weather, beautiful women, night life, and just overall energy that Los Angeles does…I can think of none.
If you’re a college basketball player, wherever you go you are going to have your pick of women. I just see the spotlight (ESPN games, media attention, etc.) being much more appealing at a school like Duke, UNC, or Kentucky than it is at UCLA. UCLA games are hardly ever on national TV because of how late their games all.
Also, UCLA struggles to fill half their arena (53%). People in LA just don’t really care about college basketball. At the other blue blood schools, you are a legend the second you step on campus.
“All he did was get a ticket for a stop-sign violation,” Lipscomb told USA TODAY High School Sports. “He didn’t know he was driving on a suspended license. He was in an accident, they mailed the citation to his house, but his family had moved and didn’t receive the notice, so his license was suspended. It wasn’t that big a deal.”

Pretty pathetic for a program as legendary as UCLA.
Would you rather be at the beach or on a bench watching hoops?
I’d rather be at a college basketball game than at a beach, but that’s me. That’s kind of my point, though. A player wanting to be in the spotlight and wanting to be a media darling is foolish to choose UCLA over a Duke/UNC/Kentucky.

Believe me when I tell you, there is no better town to be a star than LA.

For a professional athlete, sure. For a college athlete? No. UCLA doesn’t get nearly as much media coverage as Duke. This isn’t even debatable, man.

Not talking about media coverage necessarily, but just ‘the love’ you receive in general. There is no doubt LA is a Lakers town in terms of basketball…I don’t think anybody would debate you on that.
dylan… scout (paywall) indicating people in columbus saying caris now leaning towards draft from convos with family.
Would Caris have been candid with Jaylen re his plans and the team?
Could you see those decisions being interlinked at all? Does it benefit Caris if Jaylen announced blue? Does Jaylen feel like he can be the guy with Caris gone (and now 8 guys going pro under JB)? Does it make Jaylen less likely to come with a less complete team (i.e. less likely to go to final four)?
MattD, UCLA sells %53 of their arena and seldom play in national television or prime time. Kentucky and Duke sell out every game, are constantly being fluffed by the media, and players are icons the second they step on the court. You are lying to yourself if you think people in LA “love” UCLA basketball the way people in Lexington love Kentucky basketball.

What are you talking about? I openly acknowledge the fact that college basketball isn’t the prime draw in LA. What I’m saying is that being a star in LA, even a secondary star (understandable with the likes of Kobe, Kershaw, USC), is a much greater experience in relation to being a star in Lexington, KY or Durham, NC…that’s not even debatable.
Can’t speak for the UP, but ‘the love’ in LA is much more influential outside of the scope of basketball/in the arena…

I believe what he is getting at that if you are a star in L.A. you have a better shot at ending up at a free clinic for an STD test.
