Our version of TTU would be picking up Rayjon Tucker and Pierce.
We will be better than we have been at the center position as I believe Castleton will become a real weapon and Teske will take another step. I also believe Livers will go from a really good player to an all bigten type player next year. I look at a team with 3 returning players who could be all bigten type players. This isnât end of the world type of stuff. The team needs guys like Johns and DDJ to take a realistic but big step forward next year and then we can see who else is on the roster in the coming months. I would not sell next yearâs team short. Great leaders, talent and they will be more aligned next year than they were this year. Everyone is fawning over MSU but didnât they just have a season where a 150th ranked freshmen started, a former walk on started and players took a big step forward year over year. What MSU had was a cohesive team that played as a team. The talent wasnât overwhelming. Michigan will be in a better spot next year than this year IMO.
couldnât agree with you more. looking forward to see what the soph can do.
Lol of course Izzo isnât big on going through the process
I ALWAYS think guys should go through the process, regardless of whether they actually plan to leave. You get to work out with NBA teams, get exposure and most importantly, get feedback about what they are looking for and where theyâd like to see improvement.
Mo Wagner improved his game/stock a ton in his junior year after going through the process and getting his feedback. DJ Wilson went through the process and got great feedback such that he decided to leave and ended up going round 1. Itâs extremely beneficial for draftable players to do the workouts and get feedback.
Yeah, that about sums up Tom Izzo right there. Might as well have said, âI donât want my players to get more information and find out they are good enough to leave before Iâm done yelling at them.â
You can check out any time like you like, but you can never leave. Iâm sure Ward will be permitted to escape, but Winston wonât be going anywhere until Izzo is done with him. Heâs too important to Izzoâs plans to dominate Beilein again and to get back to the very top of the sport.
Well, Kentucky won it all in 2012, lost everyone, and only made the NIT in 2013.
Similarly, after UNC won it all in 2009, they failed to make the tourney the next year.
We lost 3 damn good players last year and this was no down year. While I understand the concern, I think this program is definitely the healthiest it has ever beenâand certainly as healthy as the other teams in that list.
I actually think we have the potential to be better next year. Donât get me wrong, CM, Poole and Iggy all brought unique, pro-level talent to the squad. But, they had huge struggles with passing and facilitating offense. Shooting was inconsistent for Poole and CM. Iâm intrigued to see what offense evolves from the Teske/Simpson core. All will be okay
Lots of shade getting thrown around about Michigan recruiting and guys leaving early. Keep in mind, JB has never had a 5 star and the last guy to leave early and go in 2nd round was Darius Morris (fact check needed). Isnât that really good?!
GRIII was an early entry 2nd round pick
I agree that Michigan will be retooling and not rebuilding. Depth isnât a problem right now. There are multiple candidates to fill the holes at 2 and 3, and itâs not like any of those options are as panicky as ``OMG we need to actually play Dakich because of injuriesââ. THAT was a roster hole.
Brooks, DDJ, Wilson, Bajema, Nunez and Johns all have something to offer. If the recruiting season comes off right, there will be two of Quinones, Pierce, Beverly, Tucker etc. There will likely be, therefore, 8 players vying for two starting spots and a backup spot. Only two need to fully hit. And especially with the other three starters being so good and experienced, the new entries into the starting lineup arenât going to be counted on to do too much. 3&D, and everything else is gravy. Sure would be nice to get Pierce, or Tucker. And Quinones would be an old frosh, so phsyically ready.
My big question is about Bajema. Is it the weight thatâs gonna hold him back (10 lbs lighter than Caris at this time, if I have it right), or would it be the small-school competition? And maybe neither of those things really and truly get in the way of a 6-7 perimeter player with a great shooting stroke?
Agree for the most part. Butâcriticisms of Michiganâs offense notwithstandingâthatâs our number 1, 2, and 3 scorers gone, about 40 points a game (13-plus rebounds, 4 assists). Iâm over being sad about losing Jordan and excited to see what happens, anticipate Beilein is also warming to the task. But thatâs hardly chopped liver.
Call me crazy, but I think there is going to be a strong possibility that Michiganâs offense runs smoother if all three stay in the draft.
If X and Teske end up surrounded by three knock down 40% shooters from deep, even if there is a significant talent drop off, the team will be totally fine, and possibly better offensively. Similar to MSU replacing Bridges and Jackson with McQuaid and Goins and increasing Cashâs usage a ton. X could be so deadly if he had great shooters around him. The pieces would fit much better than we saw this year.
Livers can be one guy for that role, could two of Brooks, DeJulius, Nunez, Wilson, Bajema, Johns get there as well? Or Quinones or a grad transferâŚ
I also want to addâŚI think Poole could be that guy if he returned too
Not crazy. Beilein did a good job this year putting together an offense with the pieces he had. Iâm looking forward to him having better pieces for shooting and passing next year. Shooting and passing.
That doesnât sound like something Beilein would do, from what I understand about him.
if we get Wagner (Iggy Light) and Beverly (not JP, but still a bucket getter)⌠I think weâre fine. still a top 4-5 big ten team that will ascend into March⌠Wilson providing more three point shooting.
Johns, Nunez, Brooks and company have the potential to be suitable while the young pups come up
Main thing is we will need creators (material is there, will take time to develop), I think we will have shooters if the above kids come
