Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

Juwan’s the top assistant on the Heat, so I’d be very surprised if him and Spoelstra weren’t doing some scouting and game planning together.

We also know football runs the show and that’s OK, it’s who Michigan is.

I’ll get behind anyone Warde hires. He’s not considering guys that I’d have a problem with like Rick Pitino. I’ll root just as hard whether I think he made a good hire or not. For the record, I don’t think Warde will make a bad hire.

Howard is supposed to be in charge of working with the young bigs. Whiteside hard to judge because he’s stagnated and has incredibly physical gifts but he did go from NBA washout to starting 5 and Adebayo has developed nicely (if not much better than expected, he’s a good prospect).

If you figure Castleton and Johns will be our starting bigs the next 2-3 years, someone who can improve them does make short-term sense.

Yeah, Juwan is working his way up. I doubt he’s just performing a limited role. That wouldn’t prepare him for the jobs he’s interviewing for.

Not sure about that. i watched a documentary on an NBA team and all their coaches have some important piece to the overall success of the team. i’m sure he’s well vested in alot of things that a HC would do.

Having just listened the the WTKA guys, I’m pretty comfortable with Howard. I do not buy the idea that HC experience is needed. With the obvious candidates very possibly off the list, this now stands out as an excellent idea. Howard+Yak would be about the best-case scenario for me at this point, unless they are right about Oats.

I mentioned this a day or two ago. Someone I know who is close to Oats and in his camp said they think he’d come back to Michigan if we put the money on the table and are serious about him.

Not happening.

What’s not happening Dot? Oats?

He is referring to Oats

Thank god.

Seems like he might not be connected to the school if he has to use social media. Is that the way this works?

Shaka News

Shaka interviewing Luke Yaklich for Texas Assistant Position. Could this mean Howard is the guy?

If it is Howard, I’d probably feel a little better if he kept, Yak, Saddi, etc. on staff.

That would be GREAT. Especially Yak.

howard starts to make alot of sense. most nba teams probably have same reservation of no head coach experience.

michigan takes a chance, howard goes down a level. worst case its a 3-4 rental situation where we still recruit well with howard going to nba or not succeeding

The thing about Howard is that he’s not just a name. He’s done his time as an assistant, and he’s done it with an excellent organization with good basketball leadership. I’d be so much more confident in the Xs and Os, and he brings a cache that will help him adjust to the recruiting challenge. It’s easier to see how this flawed candidate can address his flaws than it is with Smart, who even some supporters acknowledge will need to be propped up by his assistants.

And I also think it’s a big deal that we wouldn’t be stuck in mediocrity, as Howard isn’t likely to be a lifer. Harder to see how we’d be stuck with a mediocre coach doing just well enough to avoid getting fired.

Donlon already started the defensive culture with Beilein before Yak even stepped on campus. Donlon raised the D from the Kenpom 170’s to in the 30’s in one season with same guys. Yaklich came in and continued it but also had the benefit of 2 elite defender stepping into the starting line up x, and Charles. Yaks results are partly roster driven, if Donlon stuck around his defenses would’ve been in a similar range (top 15-20 in the country maybe top 5 tough to say)

You can say it started with Donlon but that was still an offensive-driven team (#4 Kenpom). These last two years we’ve won with defense.

I’m getting the sense Juwan’s the guy though. Woodson just floated his name out in a tweet.
