Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

It’s based off Sam’s articles on 247. If you’re an insider it’s on the front page

I’m a gigantic Beilein fan and will continue to root for him, so don’t get me wrong here. I think our coach was tough to match. But the years his point guard was injured (and I only remember Derrick Walton for an extended period) didn’t go so well. It’s a tough position for Smart to lose a star.

Yep, which is one of a million reasons I have almost no faith in Warde.

Completely agree. Michigan can call itself a football school all it wants, but it has the budget to pay its football and basketball coaches top dollar.

Bold prediction Juwan Howard is offered job today, and commits to the program tomorrow!

You just said it’d be a month long process like an hour ago

Something interesting about Shaka: his head assistant left this offseason for the NKU job, another one is Jai Lucas, a former UT player, and could stick around there. Perhaps that means he could be more open to keeping the already-existing assistants in place?

That’s if they’ll spend the money. If Yak in particular is willing to stay but needs to be PAID, I sure hope that’s what they do.

Yacklich is an absolute horrible idea there’s a reason nobody has interviewed him for a head coaching position

The reason is because he’s not been at this level long. He’ll get his interviews soon enough. The guy changed the culture of this program, a pretty remarkable feat considering that his boss was a Hall of Fame coach.

Jalen going to bat for Juwan.

My guess is if Hammons gets a college job she’d probably look to hire one of her former players or colleagues to help with recruiting, throw some NBA charm around.

I gotta say as a Canadian, if Dave Smart (who runs Carleton’s basketball program, they beat good D1 teams pre-season every year) hadn’t just stopped coaching to run the program and I guess work less demanding hours, I would be hoping we’d look at him. They won 13 titles in like 16 seasons, guy can clearly coach the age group.

Let me ask everyone this: No matter who Michigan brings in, can you guys get behind them even if you didn’t want that coach? Because if the fans can’t get behind a coach then they are doomed from the start and it doesn’t matter who is in charge if the fanbase doesn’t get behind them. I got my qualms and worries with most the guys that are being mentioned but at the end of the day I plan on supporting whomever gets the job. Even Shaka, Howard, Yaklich or anyone else.

Yeah, I’d expect that from Jalen. The reality though, based on current options, I’d actually tend to agree. Not sure it’s a slam dunk like he says, but honestly, outside of Chis Beard (who we apparently can’t get), I can’t see who else to bring in at this point. Even though he’s never been a head coach yet, he’s considered one of those rising stars who’s been on the cusp. I like Shaka, but after watching Texas a few times this year…

The strongest argument for Juwan Howard is that he was immediately hired by the Heat, one of the smarter NBA organizations, to Spolestra’s staff upon his retirement. They obviously thought he was ready right away or had prodigious coaching talent and they can’t just give him Spolestra’s job.

I basically want a guy with clear tactics that make sense hired, so I’m comfortable with Yaklich, but I’d be cautiously optimistic on Howard’s strategic mind based on Spolestra wanting him on his staff.

Not sure what support means in this respect. I’ll continue to state my actual opinions, I’m not going to cease from criticizing a bad coach who made a poor decision just because they’re Michigan’s coach.

Vast majority Michigan fans were behind Hoke when he was hired although he was not on anyone’s wish list.

I believe Juwan’s a legit coach. My main concern is that he’s been away from the college game since his own playing days.

The biggest concern with Juwan should be that NBA assistant coaches really don’t do very much due to the enormous amount of support staff on NBA teams. They don’t need to scout opposing teams, because there is an entire department devoted to that. Not sure if Juwan is regarded in anyway as a tactical guy, or just someone who can relate to players and keep their heads right.

I certainly see this coming
