Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

RR dug his own grave no doubt, but part of the culture was having a bunch of absolute morons in important administrative roles. Michigan got major violations thanks to that.

Culture fit is only an issue if your Athletic Department is a bunch of stuffy assholes.

Michigan’s own bullshit is its main problem.

Can you name realistic options who aren’t recipes for mediocrity?..Is Calipari coming on board? Beard? I don’t know who the options are and I have never studied or met Juwan Howard. Just based on what I know, I would opt for an experienced hire and a person who can recruit. I can’t think of many who I am excited about given the expanded list. LaVal is probably a safe pick for those who want continuity. I would live with that over some others.Again, nothing about LaVal or Howard screams anything but mediocrity or higher risk. Not ideal but I can’t name any who are elite who we can get.

Shaka is not a horrible fallback, but with his price, I would rather bring in Juwan, and give him a HUGE package for staff.

Just my 2 cents, but I struggle to see why mike white is seen as a better candidate than smart.

because Texas fans want to see Smart going away ??

3 starters leave early for draft, head coach leaves unexpected, best recruit de-commits. If you told me this a month ago i would have never believed it. honestly what worse could happen to this program? Sad sad.

Probably because he’s been better at Florida than Smart has been at Texas. I don’t have White a ton higher on my list than Smart though

Recruits similar players to what Beilein does. Has a really good class coming in at Florida so they look like they are on the rise. Had a good stint at CSU. His 1st Florida team was 5th on KenPom

I say hire Juwan and see what he can do. If nothing else you’ll probably get his son and nephew to come and play for him and they’re both pretty good from other sites are saying. Michigan man, no HC experience but has been a top Asst. for Miami since 2013. If not him they need to find someone quick, people already jumping off the Michigan boat (Jalen Wilson) don’t want to lose anyone else.

Absolutely. Don Canham ain’t walkin through that door.

Well we still have what appear to be absolute morons in main administrative roles, but just not the same ones this time.

I’d personally prefer Juwan over White, and White over Smart, but I’ve been talking myself into Shaka a bit more. I definitely don’t think he’s the worst option, and he has three top-100 kids (two from Texas, but one out of state) coming in for 2019. I’m just not trying to think too investedly about it, que sera, sera, and all.

Haynes was Zeb’s lead recruiter.

Experience at a football school?!? What a stupid ass criterion. That just sounds like code for someone who isn’t going to command top dollar for themselves and their assistants. Oh, and Michigan hasn’t been a football school for over a decade/

It’s definitely a football school based on number of fans and revenue

That’s too extreme. They can make the tourney with the current team, assuming no major injuries or further departures. But yes, they are going to take a huge step back.

Brian on 247 mentioned this is a legit thing since coaching at a football school is very different from a basketball school. As a result it’s not a bad criteria to have.

Also Michigan is a football school not matter how you put it. It’s not necessarily the results, but the attraction, income, and hype that comes from it.

It’s AD is behaving like the AD of a football school right now.
