Iffff we were to look for a coach who would be realistic targets?

It’s very sad and unfortunate about Andrew Jones as he definitely seemed like a good player (and a good shooter). And obviously that can’t be held against Shaka in terms of having a poor shooting team – he did lose his best shooter early in his second year in the program.

I still don’t think he knows what he’s doing when it comes to offense, though. I don’t care about Texas one way or the other and even I found myself getting frustrated while watching them.

the longer warde takes, the worse this is gonna get and quickly

michigan was as high profiled as JB allowed it to be. you let multiple guys decommit/transfer and take your sweet ass time and you’re 15-15 next year with an unproven coach and back to where you were 12 years ago in a hurry

Shaka’s offenses have always been terrible when they can’t get out in transition and run. He’s a bad half court offensive coach. Defensively I’m not worried. Maybe not as good as past couple years but good enough.

I don’t think he’d be a disaster. But I also don’t think we are winning any conference titles with him. And that’s disappointing to go from our best coach ever to a guy that’s gonna top at in mid 20s for wins and 3rd in the conference IMO.

My hope is Shaka shows he can evolve on the offensive end. It’s possible.

But up to now ( no matter the personnel ) his half court offense is just a disaster. So disjointed.

With JB previously ruing our inability to create your own shot vs switching defenses, perhaps A+ future recruiting will net some game changers.

Shaka can recruit.

Yak’s an elite defensive coach and while we don’t know what he can do offensively, he had two years to learn from a mastermind there. He’s the best bet for trying to keep the current program going. We don’t have to worry about him being a bad fit with the school or roster, or being able to recruit the region. The same reasons people were pushing him to succeed Beilein when he would retire still apply.

I don’t think Smart would be a disaster but I get the sense he has a ceiling, and I don’t like that UT fans would cheer his departure.

if yaklich were an assistant elsewhere, he wouldn’t be considered for UM

i agree keep him on staff, but just cause he sat next to JB doesn’t make him most qualified

JB had saddi as 2nd man up

I believe its got more to do with Chris Beard being a UT alumn and taking Texas Tech to national championship. Shaka screwed himself not recruiting shooters and going for the athletic type player that he thought could develop into a shooter with coaching. I think he needs a change of scenery and he’ll be fine.

Might as well take our time with this hire, next season is already over we will be lucky to make a NIT appearance. Should be a long year for Michigan Basketball.

Best bet lolollollol. The guy hasn’t even sniffed an interview for a head coaching position ANYWHERE, there is obviously a reason. If you go that route Saddi is a far better bet

Do people read this blog or listen to the podcast? Dylan has been pretty clear on his opinion of promoting an assistant (it’s a bad idea).

While true, I don’t think Dylan imagined the hire would be as bad as it will be.

Well Howard and Smart were both discussed I think.

Snow said Warde wants someone with experience at a football school… cough Mike White cough

Yeah, that makes sense. I hope this doesn’t get even uglier. Yak was the primary recruiter for Zeb Jackson too, right? If we offered Yak the job right now, that might be the right move.

I know this is not what everyone wants but I would take an experienced hire who is at least somewhat good vs taking a shot on an assistant coach. I think no matter who we get, it will be a step down from JB unless this new person can recruit at an elite level. If that person can, they most likely won’t be the best X’s and O’s guy out there. Not many who can do both and those who can aren’t waiting around for Michigan’s call. It is why I won’t dismiss Crean, Smart or other experienced head coaches. The alternatives aren’t great

Dylan has made clear that he thinks those two are subpar hires. Not exactly sure where Dylan’s “Yaklich Line” is.

Recipe for mediocrity, I’m concerned.

I guess we have pretty different recalls of what he said on the podcast.

Seeing the Shaka chatter become more concrete surprises me based on my thoughts yesterday. However, if it’s not Webber I don’t think Shaka is a bad hire.

I always felt he’s better suited for a mid-major given his tenure at Texas. Still, small sample size at Texas and it’d be great to see him recruit at Michigan. Worth a shot if not Howard.

after Rich Rod disaster, I think that culture fit should be a serious consideration.
