With JB hiring prowess of assistants I would completely trust him to find the next head coach.
I would not credit anything Horford says. He also listened to his entourage who told him he would be a star if he transferred to Florida.
A buyout could scare away another college team but a pro team, if interested, will just pay up.
Wasnât sure if this had been posted but seems like Juwan is getting serious NBA consideration still this offseason.
interviewed lakers, knicks, and cavs. He seems on short list of every NBA team
Yup may have lost him before the search even begins. I hope the AD makes the right decision and doesnât screw up like my NBA the Chicago Bulls front office smh
Itâs always nice when someone brings humor to his first post.
Really feel like Saunders is the right call for them but they have to go through the process to get there.
I agree with that, but I looked at it more from the standpoint of a âwhy notâ have it. It wasnât like Beilein wasnât going to sign the extension if it was included. More importantly, I was thinking if he had a buyout it would soften the blow of Michigan going out and paying a buyout elsewhere. Any money paid to Michigan as a buyout would be money we could then flip and use on a coach we hire. I know we like to think Michigan has âunlimited pocketsâ but theyâve proven in the past that isnât quite true and a few extra million for losing your guy to the NBA would help. Thatâs all I meant. And after Beilein had just flirted with the NBA, giving him an extension with no buyout just seems like a foolish business move by Warde Manuel when most have something in their contracts. Wasnât like was going to turn down the extension after he wasnât offered an NBA job last offseason.
Yeah nothing in Michiganâs history tells me theyâd be willing to spend 5-6 million on a basketball coach.
We could always have Harbaugh donate $2M of his salary to the hoops coach until he beats OSU or wins a conference championship!
I kid, I kidâŚsort of.
The thing about Coach Beilein is that none of this is about money. He wanted the opportunity to coach in the NBA. Heâs successfully been the head coach at every level. He just had a health scare last year with his heart. Though the timing is not ideal for Michigan it is for him. Whoever comes in has HUGE shoes to fill, just hope the Michigan fanbase give the guy a chance.
Juwan is clearly a fast riser in the NBA ranks but you also wonder where his heart will be. Would he want to stay in college and coach or would we be looking at (with any success) the equivalent of a one and done coach who in 3 or 4 years is gone and then weâre back at square one. Iâd prefer him over some of the other names (Mosher) but I think thatâs got to be a consideration in the search.
Timeline for hiring a new coach been announced?
I completely agree, I didnât mean it that way at all. I think Beilein wanted his opportunity at the NBA and could care less about the money. I have no problem with that one bit. I just think the university was foolish not to hedge their bet when the cost to do so would have been minimal.
Thereâs no timeline announcement nor will there ever be. Only speculation
realistically what are speculations predicting? A week? A month? 3 months?
Somewhere between threeve and eleventeen days.
Iâm pretty sure those are the buyouts the coaches are owed by the schools if they get fired. The buyouts the coaches would owe for taking another job are much lower. The last I saw, Bennettâs was $1 million. Beardâs buyout is $3 million, $6 million if the new school is in the Big 12 or state of Texas.
If this isnât taken care of within 2 weeks, we are even more screwed than we were before. So thatâs a general timeline righ tnow.
