It was naivete on his part, but I dont think he was trying to make a public declaration. He replied to one doofus, but obviously it was out there for everyone. At this point I don’t directly remember what he said, so someone with the tweets correct me if I’m wrong. But the way I remember it was, at least in the BQ article, him saying he gets why the offense was like that because of X, but that it didn’t put JP in the best light. Now you can disagree with that, and I would to some degree. But it’s clear Xavier and probably Beilein hold no ill will toward JP for those particular comments.
Well certainly the public face of the program isn’t going to respond in kind. Beilein supported his former players on twitter last night and that’s how it should be. I’m not going to assume anything about what they really think.
Xavier had several instagram stories about JP last night, he didn’t have to do that. He could have said nothing.
Send a DM.
You’re thinking through it much more logically than Anthony Poole, obviously. I said he shouldnt have done it. DMs can be screenshot so most likely that would go public as well
This former Little League coach and current youth football coach agrees.
Agreed. It wasn’t my kid in the crosshairs, so that helps. Still, though – most parents keep it to themselves. And guys like Beilein or Z, who might have their reason to harbor some resentments, understand what demands are placed on people who perform in the public eye, and display the type of discretion and leadership you want to see. If they have feelings about it we’re not going to know about it and that’s right and good.
100% this. So true. lol. Sighs. I had a player walk out of practice the day before Senior night, and then was accosted for not playing the kid. The player understood and accepted the consequences, but…
Like you, I say we just all be happy for the kid and move on
I’m not really much of a fan of this arbitrary floor and ceiling stuff. Bottom line I think Edwards will be a better NBA player, so all in all I would rate Edwards imaginary ceiling higher than Poole’s imaginary ceiling.
Don’t really see how you saying Edwards will be a better pro is any less arbitrary than projecting a prospect’s floor or ceiling but ok
It’s not of course. I just don’t spend much time dwelling on floors and ceilings. Dylan brought up that stuff. Being an agreeable sort, I simply played along.
Who has a higher ceiling? Edwards or Poole? Poole is younger, taller and has the potential to be way more than Edwards.
In other news Brian Bowen signs a two way deal with the Pacers. Raise your hand if you hand Poole in the 1st round and BB getting a two way! Two guys from La Lu who during their recruitment were miles apart. Maybe not miles…JP put in work, carried the Michigan brand with pride and in the end got those guaranteed dollars.
Snap shot…
Man, are you ever invested in your anger. Now you are just making s**t up.
I don’t remember Jordan really shooting his mouth off. I also don’t think he was the reason we lost those games. It was a lot of factors. Did he make some dumb plays and try to do too much at times? Sure, but honestly I still really like his game and think he has major upside. I also really wish he was our two guard this year and I’m confident he could have had a monster year.
Honestly he seems like a really good kid and I can’t think of a better situation for him to land in.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from this thread, it’s that we need to trademark, register, copywrite, whatever, the name Friendster as the next social media explosion. Lawyers, get on it.
You nailed it Sly, with JP this team would be chasing Natty’s! I will enjoy watching him next year at GS.
I never had the feeling that Dylan was being anything but even-handed about Poole. And I don’t think you can stress enough what Dylan says above: the draft is about potential. This is really where an obsession with stats can get you in trouble, because seeing what a player has done and what he can do are different (if related) things.
After probably eight-ten players in the draft, how many are really sure things? Teams have to go on how they think a player can prove out in the league.
In the end isn’t that what coaching is all about, what makes Beilein so great? He spotted the potential in so many kids that others viewed from the standpoint of where they were in high school, etc., used little tricks to further maximize his insights like finding kids with later birthdays. And his frustration with Poole, I have little doubt, stemmed from knowing how much better he still could be.
What did BB really do all year? Did he play at SC?
