Game 6: Penn State at Michigan Open Thread

There are probably gonna be quite a few more of those types of games this year, I hope y’all are prepared lol. Very happy to be 1-0. Go blue.

The whole season is an outlier for Franz?

Considering I was much more concerned about D than O I’m lowkey encouraged about this game

Phew. PSU is not bereft of talent but I really feel the bad stretch was more about them playing harder and smarter than us for ten minutes. Obviously, we have ball creation issues, but we were like a runner standing still coming out of the half and they had a full head of steam. Maybe we’re not that much better than PSU, but with our component parts, I think we should be.

I also like going to Williams, but if it’s in the back of your mind that he might be playing crunch time defensive minutes, I’d like to see him get a shift in the first half. Coming in cold is not ideal IMO

should read up on some recent UMHoops articles than.

John Beilein is a legend for a reason.
let Juwan be Juwan

He probably should’ve gotten some time during PSU’s big run. Bring in an energy guy to try to halt the momentum

I think that’s a lot on some of our better players. Guys not hunting shots or exploiting advantages but instead being passive.

6 points on 2/5 shooting when he averages 10 on 50% plus, yes that’s an outlier

You should remain worried that Juwan’s offense ever operates at a Beilein level. The hope is increased talent across the board solves any execution problems.

Well if it helps you feel any better, informed non casual fans aren’t concerned about Juwans offense.

It might not create the same looks that JB’s offense did, but there are a lot open looks in this offense.

Penn State had 20 more shots than us.

Good win ! Time for a feed beers !

Of the three Simpson/Teske anchored years Juwan’s offense had the best adjusted efficiency.

I agree. I originally posted right after Penn State went on the run at the start of the second half, that it was time to insert him.

I think he’s going to be good defensively. The FT struggles are a surprise based on what he did in HS.

Yeah I’m not calling it, but I’m certainly starting to lean towards “maybe Franz just isn’t that good an offensive player”.

Don’t think it was in the back of his mind until Johns awful second half shift.

Totally forgot that Beilein had Mo for one of those years too. Juwan is a very good offensive coach and watching 75% of teams try and run offense should end your concerns.

If he can’t shoot 3’s (and he hasn’t shown that he can) he can’t be effective. He’s not quick enough to get to the basket with any regularity.
