Assuming everyone else had to be guarded from 3? They spread the defense quote a bit
On a majority in the second half/overtime Johns was standing right next to his man on the other side of the paint not coming over to help.
Nice to not be feeling frustrated with the reffing today, at least. Oregon probably feels like they won 5-on-8.
Some, at least. Not all I donāt think. But it could be that Howard later kicks himself for not putting Teske back in. Weāll see in the autopsies to come.
Hats off to Pritchard. He beat one of the best on ball defenders off the bounce on 7 straight possessions. Impressive.
Tim Miles on BTN, looking like a million bucks!
I was actually fine with the timing. X shot the ball with a few seconds to play, which gave the crashing Johns and Livers time for a potential putback. I think they both may have gotten their hand on the tip, which may be why neither of them converted. So, we didnāt get a great look on the initial drive, but the O-rebound opportunity was there, we got it, but the tip didnāt go in. I think that may have happened to us before in a big one possession home loss.
I disagree. There is a lot to like still. Michigan can make adjustments too. If Howardās a good coach he will do so and come up with a counter himself. Z might have to adjust and if heās a winning player he will.
The fact that johns and Franz may have arrived gives us a plethora of options going forward. Thereās a lot of inconsistencies right now but if things start to click there might not be a scarier offense,
We got a shot at the rim and a tip in chance. Seems decent to me
Only thing that could redeem today would be Oakland somehow finding a way to beat MSU (not likely). At least Syracuse is about to lose to Georgetown.
Michigan is not a top 10 team but I donāt see why they arenāt in the next tier. That was a well played game overall
The problem is that we havenāt seen anything from this team on the road yet. Itās early, I know, but they looked shellshocked in those two games. Hopefully itās early season jitters and not a sign of things.
SO DRAW UP A PLAY FOR THEM. I love Simpson. Heās tough as nails. Heās a great leader and great distributor. But itās amazing the excuses some people will make for him. If this entire season rides on his shoulders offensively, itās not going to go well. Iād take a contested Livers or Franz shot (especially today) over a running hook shot for Simpson on a day where he was bad.
Every coach, including ones at the the middle school and HS level has specific plays they can draw up to get one good look for a guy. Itās not something that can be consistently run all game, but itās something you can run once in an end of game/half situation.
What are you drawing up with 10 seconds for two guys who canāt beat their guy off the dribble? Iām just genuinely curious what people are critiquing here.
Bingo, my thoughts exactly. We lost this battle but just gained traction in the war.
The Simpson hook has stopped working. Itās a bad shot right now and itās frustrating watching possessions that you know are doomed.
I coached HS girls basketball for a few years. We had plays to run that could get a shot off in 10 seconds for a specific player. Also when I played, we ran one play that would get an open shot 98% of the time we ran it. If a major college coach doesnāt have them, itās concerning.
We arenāt talking about 5 seconds or less. Or we arenāt talking about a team with a great scorer who can create on his own. You need to draw up a play.
X is not one of the best on ball defenders. He has been exposed on D
Iām not hating on the call at All but I do think David and Eli can get their own shot. Livers iso post up or elbow post up works too.
Again not saying I wouldnāt roll with z down hill but there are other potential looks imo.
This. Johns has a wonderful day with the impact plays, but if Teske is in there in overtime I doubt weāre talking about Xās defense like we are. I think thereās gonna be a lot of good tape material to go over on D with Johns.
