Decidedly mixed bag of a game. Wagner’s emergence, Johns’s very stellar play are critical positives. Limitations of X’s game also on full display. Oregon got most of the bounces and won, but their PG powered them through. It stings.
Yes, I think so. Basically because the Big Ten is strong. Michigan was favored to win a one possession game, tied in regulation and lost a one possession game.
Every coach has specialty plays in their bag to get ONE shot for a specific person. That was the time to run one for Livers or Franz
Yeah no way did the numbers say this was a 10 loss team after Atlantis. It sure does now though.

Yes. But those two were free.
DDJ took the shot right before the review. He got penetration, but his shot wasn’t even close. He had his opportunity to give us the lead.
Believe after Atlantis Michigan was predicted to be 23-8 on kenpom.
I loved our last shot with Oregon’s center coming out and Livers/Johns crashing the boards. All Simpson has to do is to at least get the ball on the rim.
Most annoying game I’ve ever been to. Simpson was awful all game long on both ends of the court. I hope to God Juwan did not call that last play on offense because that it would really make me question his decision making. That shot had zero chance today.
Still don’t understand never helping on Pritchard at the rim. He had 4 assists - make him dump it off or take a more difficult shot. That’s my only complaint.
You might be right. But this game was still one of the likelier losses. It always sucks to lose a close one, but some on here seem to have never experienced a whole basketball season before.
Going to be two very different-looking teams for the return trip next season. Sucks to lose the home opener. Especially to a team coached by a total sleazeball like Dana Altman.
The way I saw it, it wasn’t a designed call for Zavier to shoot on the final play. It was a designed call to get him attacking downhill and if someone over-helped, he would kick to the open man or hit the big slipping to the bucket as he did in regulation. The help stayed home, so he was forced into his hook shot which I’d guess he hits between 40-50% on his career. What I don’t get is why Zavier waited so long to start attacking on the play.
I still like the call as opposed to dialing up a catch and shoot for Franz or Livers. Because like it or not, everyone on the team besides X right now is just a catch and shoot threat. If it’s not wide open, that would be toast. I’m sure Juwan has set plays for that, but probably went with something that should have alternative options baked into it. I just think X was slow to start, made the correct read and missed the shot
Livers shot the ball… what only once in the last 7 minutes? Meanwhile Z is just getting wrecked left and right on offense and defense. FFS give Livers more touches or have DDJ drive and dish it out to Livers. Whatever it is doesn’t involve Simpson at the end of the game.
A catch and shoot from Livers or Franz is a better play than Z’s hook shot.
I would have like to have seen Brooks on Pritchard down the stretch, but DDJ was playing well and Franz was making plays too.
Where does the ball start every time Livers or Franz gets a catch and shoot look?
The more you dissect the last play, the more you see it was less about the open man or open shot and more on how well defended Oregon played it
Opinions aside on the last shot, I kinda didn’t like how long Michigan took on their two possessions down 1. I know you want to dial up a good look but Oregon was in the 1-and-1. Give yourself another chance in case of the miss.
