What would Isaiah Barnes be with Dusty as his coach? Would he get time on this year’s Michigan team?
Didn’t DMB say that account is run by his friend?
Many have said our current team’s only weakness is a sharpshooting athletic wing!
On the Women’s Side (this will be a very poor-man’s mgl look at things):
Laila Phelia: I don’t know if she’s still dealing with injuries but I can’t imagine this is how she thought transferring to UT was going to be. In 8 games, she’s averaging 19.4 mpg, 6.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.0 apg and shooting 41/13/90. Texas is 9-1 and ranked #6 in the country, so the team success may offset the personal slump.
Cam Williams Things look like they’re going pretty well for Cam. Miami is 8-1 and Cam is averaging career highs in minutes, points, rebounds, and assists (though still not many). She’s getting 12.7 ppg and shooting over 70% from the floor. As much as I think Phelia is the better player, Cam could’ve been a more important missing piece for this year’s Wolverines.
Taylor Williams was just in A2, doing her best to keep NW in the game with 11 rebounds. On the season, she’s averaging nearly a double-double for the Wildcats (11.5 ppg, 9.6 rpg). Through 8 games, she’s scored nearly the same amount of points that she did in her 24 games as a Wolverine. Who knows if she would’ve gotten anywhere near the minutes here that she’s getting in Evanston? Probably not. This looks like a good move for her.
Taylor Woodson is doing decently with her home-state Gophers. Averaging 8.1 points (45% FG, no 3’s) and 4.4 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game off the bench.
Elise Stuck is starting for the 6-4 Ball State Cardinals and averaging 9.8/4.2/1.0 and shooting 47% from the field but is only 3-21 from deep.
Chyra Evans Had an ankle injury and is red-shirting this year for Utah.
Izabel Varejão She’s played in all 10 games for 4-6 Syracuse, starting 7 of those games. Izzy is averaging career highs in points (8.0) , rebounds (5.2), blocks (1.0), and steals (1.0). Having battled injuries and being stuck in Brazil during the pandemic season, it’s good to see her finishing on a personal high-note.
Ari Wiggins is coming off the bench for 9-3 Butler. Her averages are: 4.8/0.8/2.2 and she’s shot an impressive 8 for 11 from 3 in her 12 games.
Kate Clarke Hasn’t played yet for DePaul this season. I can’t find injury news but I’m guessing that’s the case.
Taylor Gibson Another one who’s listed on a team roster (UCF) who hasn’t appeared in a game this year.
Megan Fiso The 5th year senior is starting for 10-1 San Diego State but not putting up great numbers. 3.5/2.4/0.8 in the big 3 categories, while shooting only 23% from the floor and 17% from 3.
I think that’s everyone!
Miami got two great transfers named Cam W this year?
Tarris Reed, Jr with a double-double in UCONN’s recent OT win over Xavier. 20pts 12 rebounds
In a preseason “Ask Me Anything”, I asked a question about which of Michigan’s former players would have the best season. IIRC, @umhoops said “Tarris Reed, Jr”
Were there any other candidates?
Depends on whether you meant “former players from last year” and what you define as success. Hunter will always be “good” but is likely judged more on his team’s success. Then you have a few guys who are doing well relative to expectations (Khayat, etc.) or TWill theoretically playing well when he’s healthy.
Good for Reed…figured if he was going to make things work that Juwan would have been the coach to unlock it. Highlights one of the many impacts of Juwan’s health issue last year…and being surrounded by a more robust overall program.
The disrespect is crazy
Ah, wasn’t thinking about Hunter at all. Just last year’s team.
I guess maybe conventional wisdom would have been Dug… but one guy was going to play for Hurley and the other guy for Tang.
If you want some real disrespect, check out Isaiah Barnes stats and his teams KP rank
Give Isaiah the Rubin Jones role and I promise you he’d have a 141 oRTG and be an elite defender and lob threat and sniper and awesome and awesome and awesome
Got that internship atta boy Hunt
So Jesus died to get Dug the start?
He moves in mysterious ways…
What in the world is this??? Tang seems like he is grasping at straws
Both Hunter and Dug scored 20 points tonight. Hunter in a loss to Baylor and Dug in a win over Iowa State.
Laila Phelia has missed more than half the season for Texas with a detached cornea.
