Five thoughts on Michigan hiring Juwan Howard

2 to 2.5 mil per year for Juwan.

This would have to put him in the bottom half of coaching pay in the league. Should free up plenty of money for assistants. Would like one high profile assistant on staff with some head coaching experience.

From the article

ā€œHe said he’s going in there, rolling his sleeves up and ready to outwork everyone and win a national championship. That’s his only goal,ā€ one former college head coach who spoke to Howard told The Athletic. ā€œHe said, ā€˜That’s my school.ā€™ā€

Nope, we’d all peace out for sure. Hopefully Yaklich is better than that … c’mon Yak.

So as not to be a hypocrite later, no matter what happens I tip my cap to Warde. I think he did a great job in the end.

Well, his career earnings as a player were estimated somewhere around $150m plus endorsement deals. And he didn’t have to pay off student loans from college. And after retiring, he’s earned money from his coaching salary. So he might be in a position to give the school another gift — accept a lower salary in return for larger staff salary pool?

I’ve seen Tim Miles name floated around a bit…idk if that classified as a high enough

Don’t think this is true and said it in another thread earlier. Go to another D1 major and perform the same miracle and he is on his way to his own D1 head coaching job. No prospective employer is going to hold it against him that he didn’t stay on in an uncomfortable position where he wasn’t a good fit. Probably he goes to a better salary, too.

Tim Miles would probably rather just sit a year out and get a new job next year. I like the John Thompson III idea. I know he wants to get back into coaching, maybe an assistant job would open more doors for him.

I would love that if Miles came aboard

Miles or jtiii would be a homerun for juwan

I’d have no problem with Tim Miles coming on board.

In regards to Yak being retained, I’d recommend looking at his wife’s Twitter ā€œlikes.ā€ Lotta shade the last few hours. If this is any indication as to how Yak feels, I would not bank on him being at Michigan next year.

Can’t expect Wilson to be back either then.

She also liked announcements that Howard was hired as HC. I think we could get Yak to stick around a year, solely because of his son. But beyond that? He’s either a HC or we are paying him big money

Watch the liked video from Ant Wright, especially toward the end. One can be congratulatory while simultaneously planning a move.

Tim Miles would be sweet as an associate head coach (if that’s even a real possibility), but damn I selfishly wanted him to get into color commentary.

She is one of three likes on this tweet… Oof

This ESPN article announcing Juwan’s hire will be no more than boilerplate for anyone who has watched closely during the last week. But there’s a nice video interview with Jay Williams halfway down the page that wants checking out. Williams got hammered for his comments about embracing the Fab Five culture last week, but listen to what he has to say here.

More and more, this hire feels to me like it’s a home run. I am especially convinced that those posters who questioned Juwan’s recruiting capabilities or the continued resonance of the Fab Five to young players will be. . . pleasantly surprised.
