Big day for those of us invested in Arsenal never winning anything ever. That Cherki rabona was outrageous.

Hate 48 teams. 32 with top 2 in each group advancing was perhaps the most the perfect setup in sports. I think I’d rather them just jump to 64 teams, which I assume will happen within the next two decades. A majority of third place teams advancing makes for a rough group stage.

Gonna try and go to least one game in Kansas City. Girlfriend has a ton of family there so I’ll have free lodging, which willl help me stomach the ticket prices

Mean! Bad day for those of us who got up at 7:30 just to have their weekends ruined at 9:30.

Probably doesn’t really matter but why is the U.S. in Group D and not C? The other two host nations are in Groups A and B, as you’d expect.

It’s just for scheduling reasons I believe. I don’t think there’s much rhyme or reason to it besides that.

It’s to spread out the hosts in the knockout bracket if all three win their groups. Winners of A, B, and C are on the same side but D isn’t.

This sucksss. Hopefully he’s fully back and healthy by June

I promised my daughter I would take her to this World Cup. Which is best 4 day trip from East Coast? Netherlands are probably our fave team. Sorry but we back potential winners. Ugh. Summer in Texas. Yuck.

Only man united can lose to brighton then proceed to defeat man city

I think I was originally super out on the new UCL format, but it actually feels like it works? They get more high-profile made for TV matchups in the group stages, and they get a decision day type of event like this.

Still feels a little too abstract to follow the whole “big picture” but tons of teams that need to win a game. That’s simple enough.

Visca el Barça.

You get more high profile matchups but it seems less jeopardy. It was very clear with the old format what a loss meant but now? Not really sure. Like PSG was terrible in the group stage and may have gone out in the old format but picked up momentum. Liverpool was the number one seed and got…PSG and was gone.

OMG. What scenes for Mourinho and Benfica.

Trubin SZN. What a day for a culer.

Madrid is a mess. A complete mess. Don’t they now rematch with Madrid in the playoff round?

I’m sure Arbeloa will be the man to turn it around.
