The South American squads have been treating this tourney like an actual World Cup and it’s showing. Fully expect the Euros to turn it up a notch in the KO stage, but these upsets aren’t super surprising.
Also Nicholas Jackson is the modern day Balotelli, talented but just can’t keep his head.
Not that they have done anything too terrible today, but still so hard to believe in a nation of 300+ million people, the best we can do is Chris Richards and Tim Ream.
Really impressed with Tillman this tourney though, feel like he has a role to play next summer.
Obviously not a WC quality squad but I like the way the US has played. And a couple of guys standing out like Tillman to gain something from this tournament.
At the least, feels like we are starting to see adjustments as needed and varying up the attack. Getting the ball to mid quicker this match and not playing patty cake with it on the back line. I’m still not sure exactly what we are going for, but fundamentally, the B team looks better than in past years in attack and mid. About the same or slightly worse on D, but I think that’s just personnel.
Two of the MLS teams in the field got into it for nonsense reasons really.
LAFC won a play-off game that only happened because Leon was banned. Miami is in because they got a “host spot” and won the MLS Supporters Shield last year (also they have Messi )
So it is very valuable but it isn’t like teams have a route to just try harder to make it.
Everyone is trying to win their continental competitions.
So the CONCACAF and Club World Cup are both being played. There must be some players on the national teams that are also on some of these club teams. How is that being worked out?
Tillman has been the Truth at PSV for the last 2 years, really hope he seizes the 10 role for USMNT. He could be a lot of fun at Leverkusen if they don’t implode from losing Alonso, Wirtz, and co.
