European Soccer

There’s a story on espn that Mbappe has decided not to extend his contract w/ PSG and that he is interested in a transfer to Real Madrid. Makes total sense, given that Benzema has left. However, the article also asserts Real is prepared to pay a 200 million euro fee. TBH, while Mbappe is awesome and certainly it would be perfect to sign him, it feels more than a little extravagant to pay 200 million today when you could wait a year and sign him for free! 200 million is real money, and Real is not Manchester City from a revenue perspective, so I kind of think they need to at least entertain waiting. Of course, ‘don’t bid against yourself’ is one of the most common criticisms from fans, and half of recruitment is paying bribes, excuse me, ‘fees’ to the player’s agents, so maybe they have to do this in a transfer setting, but ugh, financially this is a huge stretch. of course, in the end, Mbappe is probably the best in the world at what he does, so maybe that’s the start and the end of any analysis.

Think this is a solid move. Should hopefully be able to get minutes, plus still in the UCL.

Good move for CP. Pivotal moment in his international career, no one looked good on Chelsea in the past year so there’s still hope there. I can’t think of one attacking player that has improved his stock at Chelsea in the past 3 years. Werner, Havertz, Sterling, Puli, Aube … all looked bad there.

Leao means that Pulisic probably has to play on the right, but at least that is better than not playing.

It’s definitely a winnable starting winger spot, opposite Leao. Just wish he couldve stayed in the EPL so it’s easier to watch him

Well hard to watch him when he’s on the bench, so probably not a big difference.

Yeah getting meaningful PT against legit competition is the most important thing. Just wish he was doing it for West Ham, Fullhan, etc. Think he’s good enough (when healthy) to start for a mid-table EPL team. But I will take a moment to lol at Chelsea actually being a mid-table EPL team, last season.

Yeah, I get it - from his perspective, it probably feels better to play in the CL than for a team reaching for Europa

Real is obsessed with getting Mbappé. Money doesn’t seem to be a concern. They went through this same process a couple years ago, but PSG finally didn’t sell.

I just think there is the question with the fair play rules if doing so will be ultimately self-defeating

Madrid seems to just sort of keep on keepin’ on generally, I remember at this time two years ago people were shoveling dirt on their grave, then Benzema won the Ballon D’Or and they won the UCL

I know the Salzburg team Aaronsen played on was in the UCL two years ago (but assume the German Bundesliga team has a better shot than the team from the Austrian Bundesliga)

Not super high on Aaronson, but that’s a great move for him.

Mid table Bundesliga (which this seasons place aside seems closer to what Union was based on differential) seems his level yeah

Pulisic’s move makes sense too, probably not a UCL caliber player in the premier league

If this US/Canada match was someone’s first time watching soccer, I wouldn’t blame them if they never watched the sport again.

And then the last 2 minutes and stoppage time finally get good.

Nothing in the world like the rush you get when CONCACAF goes full CONCACAF

That’s the sort of goal that you give up in FIFA and throw your controller through the window and scream about scripting.

Didn’t have ‘Players refuse to go to midfield’ on my bingo card

Gotta love the pettiness between these 2 teams haha

Matt Turner doing ‘A’ team things.
