Need to see how young guys do with competent players next to them. A starting XI of all U20s guys would make everyone ineffective. You want to see what your players can do and sometimes that means brining in old heads to be steady while the young ones figure it out.

So there’s just literally nobody cromulent, younger than 27, and available at the position for the trio I named? I’m not saying the whole team has to be 20.

A lot of the guys you were describing were in the Nations League squad. Not sure the story on guys like Shaq Moore or Reggie Cannon but hard to follow who is hurt, doesn’t want to get hurt before transfers/contracts are settled etc

If they are younger than 27 and in line to get reps with the A team, they were probably in the nations league squad.

There aren’t going to be many people who are 25, not part of the nations league setup, and still good enough to bring around as leadership guys.

That’s why a few older vets, who have experience in the A team, make a lot of sense in this context.

I really think it is a pretty reasonable roster between young guys, vets, guys to cap tie, etc. There’s a pretty wide range of ages.

I just turned on ESPN U and they have an Under 12 game on. Weird. Outside of the Little League World Series, I don’t think I’ve seen kids get this kind of coverage.

See if we can’t blow it vs. a Trinidad team only needing a draw in a virtual knockout game for a change.

We should have told Ferriera that the Netherlands was a Caribbean island nation last December.

Not bad for the B team! I doubt they can win this whole thing but winning the group is as good a start as you could ask for.

I think they’re going against B teams, at least Canada and Mexico sent B’s, so when they get deeper they won’t see a true international side (assuming St. Kitts doesn’t really have a B).

Don’t know what the Panama/Guatemala level guys sent

Yeah b teams from the big three but if I think some of the bigger fries have sent A teams. Jamaica for sure and if El Salvador or Panama did too, those are the types of teams that are taking points in WC qualifying. So that’s something. But yeah, not much to see tonight. I would say, in contrast to the espn report, that Cade Cowells goal was not a total howler. Ok the pass back was atrocious, but he has to make a move on both the keeper and the last defender. Pretty good for a teenager!

El Tri losing 30 minutes in.

Mexico one of the only teams out there that can have me actively pull for freaking Qatar.

Canada sent their B, but Mexico mostly sent their A team

Yeah I guess Memo is there and Edson Alvarez

No Chike Lozano or Raul, so a little underpowered up front

Can someone explain to me why Qatar is in this? I know they were last time bust assumed that was some pre-WC publicity tour

Qatar just got the random invite the Gold Cup usually throws out. I don’t think there was any particular reason besides maybe no one else wanted to do it.

We play Canada’s B team on Sunday now, then winner of Panama/Qatar and then either Mexico/Jamaica in the final probs.

All those matches were nuts last night, those Caribbean island clubs were playing like it was a World Cup knockout round. Bunch of goals, everyone just all out attacking, fun games.
