Enjoying this season but next year we're DEEP--WHO GETS MINUTES

Coming from the exact same position (meaning elevating off left leg), I highly doubt Nik would've dunked with the left hand. Dunking with the left hand while jumping off the left leg is nearly impossible........for any athlete. Difference is that Nik was agressive going to the rack as a sophmore and was looking to dunk, whereas Zak looks to lay it up............which is weird because he was dunking everything early in the season. Hasn't been the same since he was rejected at the rim at the buzzer vs Nova attempting that soft layup

I didn’t say he would dunk with the left hand; if he laid it in, he would have used his left hand to protect the ball. But most likely he would have just dunked it - with both hands.

Still don’t think he would’ve dunked, very difficult to dunk with 2 hands going left coming from the middle unless you jump off your right leg. If Nik was going straight line from the baseline, no doubt he would’ve dunked.

Point taken though, Nik was simply the more agressive, and hence more efficient, finisher.

I guess I wasn’t clear. Zak was coming down the baseline from left to right. By switching mid air to his right hand, he put the ball closer to the defender. Terry Mills commented on it on the radio broadcast.

We must be talking about 2 different plays - I was referring to the play when Zak was going down the middle and attempted to lay it up with the right hand in attempt to go under the defender and was blocked.

“This team as a whole has a lot of supplementary players that are dependent on others, but not a lot of core guys in my opinion. We have a plethora of guys that can be really valuable provided they are not your primary options. Of course, this may be quite different if Caris and Walton were healthy, but it didn’t seem that Caris’ presence made all that much difference to be honest about it.”

I think there’s something to this and that it’s definitely a question for next year. There’s plenty of talent but who are the creators? I don’t think we saw enough of Caris this year to say that he was incapable of involving more guys, but it wasn’t there yet. Derrick is going to be really really good here, but we need another guy. Zak might well get to the point where he’s a consistent 15-20 point per night guy and STILL not be much of a playmaker.

Maybe just maybe everyone comes along together. I do think that several of Beilein’s teams have been more than the sum of their parts, so there’s definitely reason for hope. In fact, although Burke and Stauskas emerged OUT OF that system to become stars, arguably the only really creative guys we’ve had were McGary and Morris. Maybe I’d put Caris in there. . .

Burke has to be on the list of “Creative” guys. He did it all out there and made everyone around him better.

worst coaching job I have seen since beilen has been here. not sure why he insists on the 1 3 1 once a team figures it out. Its good in spurts, but once a team figures it out hes gotta know when to bail on it, this same things happened a few times this year.

Also you allow a five second count when your right next to rahkman? your the coach call a timeout. disgusting ending to a game we were winning for almost whole game. You just knew they’d fold in overtime.

In reference to the original question, anyone but Chatman. You could put him into my D3 High School basketball league and he’d still shoot 1-13 with 4 turnovers…

I have been wondering about the original question in regard to transfers. I like both guys and want them to stick around, but I agree that Donnell and Kam are the two that come to mind as possibilities. I hope not though.

In a related note, I don’t think we need to be too hard on recruiting yet. This year’s class had two 4-star guys in it. And Doyle should’ve been a 4-star. This isn’t a bad class. We are just having to bring them on too quickly. And next year’s lack of top prospects isn’t unprecedented by other leading B1G teams. MSU (2013) and OSU (2012) have had down years recently. As long as you don’t have 2 busts in a row. And if you look at Wisconsin’s current team they are all 3 star recruits that stay all four years and one 5 star McDonald’s All-American.

All that to say, I think we are positioning ourselves to have a very bright future. But I wonder if there will be enough minutes to satisfy everyone. If a guy or two transfer I wouldn’t be surprised. I do think we will pick up at least one big prospect in 2016. Maybe 2. We would have the upperclassmen to support them, unlike this year.

I know people have discussed Max possibly coming back…

John Beilein says Michigan is sticking to its plan with Max Bielfeldt.
“We want that scholarship available for next year.”

Maybe they feel good about their chances with Cook? If they aren’t going to use the scholarship, why not bring Max back? From that quote, it really sounds like it’s JB’s decision, not Max’s.

The way I look at it is, if Max is logging 10+ minutes for your team, you probably aren’t in contention for much of anything. I agree with the move.

I would normally agree, but even if you are not contending, the question does he make your team better? Then you weigh that against the roster spot that he opens up…and make a decision accordingly based on what type of player you are potentially bringing in.

Interesting. I have a feeling that we’ll have more than just Max’s spot open too.

I think the coaches know what Max brings to the table and if he is going to make next year’s team better, it’s marginally at best. Those 10+ minutes he would log a game would serve the program better if they were given to an underclassman.

I think the coaches follow your line of thinking, but I disagree. Our program would be best served by winning as many games as possible next year. Over the past 8-10 games, Max has been our best big man in terms of all-around contributions.

Now I would expect Doyle to easily be our best option next year after a (hopefully) productive summer. But after him? I just don’t see Donnal or Wilson being physical enough to log major minutes at the 5 during Big Ten play. Unless we’re expecting Doyle to log 35+ mpg, I don’t see why we’d want to let Max walk.
