Right now we’re scraping by surprisingly ok, but next year we could be crazy deep assuming health returns and either Caris back/big recruit in, then10+ guys probably warranting playing time:
PG–Walton 30, Spike 15
SG–LeVert 30, MAAR 15
SF–Irvin 25, Robinson 15
PF–Dawkins 20, Chatman/Beifelt 15
C–Doyle 20, Donnal/Wilson 15
Those minutes are just guesses, but point is lots of returning guys have proven they can play. Not quite as crowded if Caris goes pro or Biefelt doesn’t return–assuming no other top recruit signs on (would be nice to add one)–but we could have a truly quality 2+ deep at each spot for first time in forever! Hope all stay and become champions!!!
Think Robinson could/will play more than 15 minutes per game. He’ll probably be the best shooter on the roster and Beilein has mentioned him specifically in his last two radio shows.
Also, two seniors, two juniors, 6 sophs (eligibility-wise) and one redshirt freshman. That assumes that Max doesn’t return. Three seniors if he does. At 6’8", you might see Robinson play some 4.
Maybe UM only has three primary position (and say Caris returns, Beilfelt doesn’t (hope both do), maybe it looks more like this:
POINT—Walton 27, Spike 13
WING–LeVert 30, Irvin 27, Robinson 20, MAAR 15, Dawkins 15, Chatman 13
CENTER–Doyle 20, Donnal/Wilson 20
We have a LOT of guys capable of playing well at the wing spots, tho Chatman and even Wilson haven’t proven it yet. If LeVert goes pro we will do fine, tho he’s clearly the cream of the crop at this point.
Spike will be playing more than 15 minutes a game. Beilein will play them two together just like he has this year. He is probably the MVP of the team right now for this season.
Walton, Spike, MAAR and maybe LeVert are your 1/2 options
Irvin, Robinson, Dawkins, Chatman are your 3/4 options
Doyle, Donnal, Wilson (could be a 4) are your 5 options
And remember that Beilein generally likes to settle around an 8 maybe 9 man rotation.
Hoops–yes, point taken… I agree your 3 positions are a better breakdown…
Walton, Spike, MAAR & LeVert could take significant pt from the 3/4 mins too.
Main point is we have quality back-ups. Good luck next year trying to run with Meeechigan, but you wont be able to hide!
Think you guys are really selling MAAR short by projecting 15 mins a game. If anything, I see MAAR gets 20-24 mins minimum at the expense of Wilson/Chatman
Need Jaylen Brown next year in order to be considered “deep”…and that’s assuming the front court improves, Irvin finally lives up to his hype, and Chatman and Wilson make enormous strides.

I agree mattd MAAR at fifteen isn’t good enough. He is not only a very decent shooter, but our best slasher/wing defender. I don’t see why he shouldn’t get 20-25 a game as well, no matter who comes back. you gotta find this kid minutes period.
I know its far away, but screw it I am going to say it. Even if Levert doesn’t come back, I am predicting a big ten title. That is how good I feel about this teams future with dawkins and maar coming on and another year of seasoning under their belt. Also walton is going to be a serious problem when his toe is healthy.
I can already picture teams faces when walton grabs the d rebound and takes off at break neck speed with maar running on one side and dawkins on the other. were going to be a nightmare. this I promise you guys.

Hate to be a downer, but we simply don’t run all that much. The bigger question facing next years team is can we create better looks and finish in the half court? Far too many possessions where we end up with contested jumpshots this year.
I know we don’t run matt d. I think with those three on the court its just inertia taking over though. Walton many times just breaks out naturally with no one one running with him. I see maar and dawkins pushing the pace with him.
I also think the offense will be best with them all on the floor together. Part of the problem is no one can keep defenses honest by getting to the rack. a healthy walton can, maar is showing he can slash and I believe dawkins has that potential and skill to as well. Once they have to respect the drive the open threes will come back and the half court offense will improve.

I just don’t see us being a transition heavy team for the simple fact that a team generally needs to do two things in order to run - rebound and generate live ball TOs, two things that we don’t do particularly well. I don’t see that changing much with the personnel next year because we’re not going to have a great rebounder or shot blocker. Perhaps MAAR will generate a few live ball TOs, but I doubt it exceeds what Caris does now. Once Teske comes, I can see us running more, but barring any steals in the recruiting process this year, I don’t think it happens until 17-18

…which is why I think it’s interesting we’re pushing hard for Cook in '15.
Either we’re overloading at the 5 spot or someone is transferring IMO
I still don’t really see the overload… Michigan has two guys at that spot and Wilson is still a guy they see as a four (Beilein said as much this fall) that can play the five if it means playing time.
