DeVante' Jones in concussion protocol, did not travel to Indianapolis

You see a whole lot of people jump up in the air without coming down and spraining an ankle. You see a whole lot of people get tackled in football without breaking a leg. Injuries are freak incidents. That’s what happens. You can’t say, well I’ve seen players get elbowed in the head before and they were fine so there must be something else going on here. This conspiracy stuff is wild. Didn’t expect to see it here

Say, implying that coaches/trainers may have knowingly allowed a player to play with concussion symptoms seems pretty silly to me. I would say there is plenty wrong with that.

Okay, let me restate the fact pattern then.

Elbowed against OSU, was symptom free for the next 3 days, played great basketball for 30 minutes against Indiana on Thursday, turned the ball over 3 times and payed bad defense in a 5 minute stretch, participated in selection Sunday festivities, interviewed with the media, practiced, got hit in the face during practice, then placed into concussion protocol.

So he was concussed during the entire Indiana game, but it only affected a 3 possession stretch according to you…?

I do not have any evidence other than the unforced turnovers that led to the improbable collapse. And it would be OK at that point without news on his concussion. I just tried to make sense out of the situation, especially when somebody otherwise reliable commits consecutive unforced turnovers while being unable to play defense.

You are ignoring the fact that many players play with injuries they do not report. And concussion symptoms to the bystanders are not easy to diagnose, unless somebody complains for lack of focus, headaches and sleepless nights. They simply appear randomly. It is not that you have a nagging foot injury all the time and you have trouble pivoting.

I have nothing particularly conspiratorial in mind myself. Just as likely it’s something innocuous. I’ve just been in media long enough and watched this athletic department’s communications strategy long enough that it has more than earned my suspicion. If you’re not curious about it, well, that’s me and that’s you. We don’t all have to think the same.

Personally I think when it’s a concussion specifically that’s a different thing. Not too long ago Michigan’s athletic department treated Shane Morris extremely callously. I don’t agree with the idea that Jones has been playing with concussion symptoms for weeks, but for me personally “Why doubt what they are saying” is a reckless at the other extreme and not an evidence-based approach.

But it happens. Less often as it used to, for very good reason, but it happens. And did in a very recent and shameful episode at Michigan.

Antwright tweeted the eyes emoji and closed replies. Is there more news coming? Maybe good news? I’m not on any of the pay sites.

I do not need to mention that perhaps I know a thing or two about concussions, but here is what is reported from reliable sources.

Signs and symptoms generally show up soon after the injury. However, you may not know how serious the injury is at first and some symptoms may not show up for hours or days. One needs to continue checking signs of concussion right after the injury and a few days after the injury. Symptoms reported as:

  • Headache or “pressure” in head.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Balance problems or dizziness, or double or blurry vision.
  • Bothered by light or noise.
  • Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy.
  • Confusion, or concentration or memory problems.
  • Just not “feeling right,” or “feeling down”.

If the player avoids to bring these issues up to the coaching staff or medical experts for fear he might not be allowed to play, then the issues can go unnoticed for some time. If somebody other than the player notices the above symptoms, then we have the protocol and not the Hoky - Morris situation.

The team made it safely off the elevator to the hotel without further injuries.

There is some more news, but he asked to not have it shared outside his discord. If it means anything, it’ll probably trickle out within the next couple hours or so

There can be a cumulative effect to concussions - particularly if your brain has not fully recovered from the previous one.

He took a blow to the head at the end of the OSU game and reported not being able to see for a moment. (Honestly I’m surprised he returned to the game.) I’m not sure it’s coincidence that this then happens barely a week later.

Or, the coach of the team knows best and isn’t trying to fool anyone. We could just go with that approach since it’s not a conspiracy or fan fiction.

This can only mean one thing… it’s Brandon Wade time

I do wonder if it could be about Davante coming back next season?

Now, if Hunter is served some Rocky Mountain Oysters and comes down with a case of “food poisoning”…all bets are off the table.

Eh, I think Collins goes to the Xavier Simpson school of leveling up and becomes Phrankie Collins
