DeVante’ Jones declares for NBA Draft

You should not assume that everyone is forming their opinions about Collins based on only one game.

Discernible to me because as you remember, Simpson took effectively zero real mid range shots throughout his career. So those other twos are coming from somewhere.

What were Frankie’s %, this season?

Frankie’s got massive potential at the rim because he can sky. Give them a ever so slightly longer window for a dump off as well. But if a team with Frankie next year is good that’s more likely because of defense. There’s nothing wrong with making some decisions based on defense too

Yeah - certainly a number of his hooks were longer range.

I definitely think he can be. I’m not at all comfortable saying he will be. Frankie had ~30% TO rate and 45% true shooting. So he scored 0.63 points per possession he used this year. What’s a reasonable but large jump in each for year 2? Let’s say 20% and 53%? That’s all the way up to 0.85 PPP. So he also needs to be an incredible creator for others to compensate for that and/or play great defense.

That’s what made Zavier so incredible. His own usage was a considerable anchor but he generated open look after open look for everybody else that he was still a huge positive. It’s doable but it’s not exactly the easiest needle to thread.

I personally don’t think Collins will have much of an issue scoring at the rim with his athleticism, but he was at 31/50 at the rim for 62% and 1/14 on other twos, 7%. If any 6’0 player could match Simpson at the rim it’s probably Collins. Though on a much lower volume it’s not correct to say he’s already as good.

My issue was more your notion that Simpson was bad at the rim. He was great.

You’d basically need Hunter + 3 shooters for Frankie to really be a viable starting PG IMO. Hunter really being the main key. I don’t really expect any centers to become available that can realistically provide the offensive lift he will.

It’s pretty difficult for guards to consistently get all the way to the rim particularly as you end up higher and higher up the scouting report.

What was Frankie at the rim in the half court?

So, freshman Frankie was as good at the rim as senior Simpson. Okay.

Yep you nailed it. Frankie is already as good at scoring as X

If Frankie is the starter then 2 of 3 thing MUST happen:

  1. He learns to shoot at least 30% from 3
  2. Guys on next years roster learn to shoot
  3. We get some shooters out of the portal

If 2 of those don’t happen, I don’t see how Frankie can be our answer at PG.

Someone will probably have to pull a Synergy out for that.

No disingenuousness to be seen here, folks!

This is… not how it works when he had 1/3 of the shot attempts lol

Worth noting that box scores are biased. So if someone misses it’s more likely to be listed as other 2 than if it’s a make

I think if you really want to max out your offense in the universe where Frankie takes a considerable year 2 leap, you’d have either a stretch 5 or a 5 who can really pressure the rim on the roll. Hunter is a great player and I’d love to have him back but think he’s only an okay fit w Frankie bc Frankie can’t space the floor when Hunter has the ball.

Sure, but again why not? His assist rate is the same as Darius Morris’ freshman assist rate and better than Simpson’s. Morris doubled his assist rate (22 to 44) between freshman and sophomore year. Simpson went up 7 percent (18-25-37-44 by year)

So now what’s a realistic assist rate improvement for Frankie from freshman to sophomore year?
