DeVante’ Jones declares for NBA Draft

It would be more of a priority if they leave. I don’t know how Michigan makes the tournament with Frankie at PG without guys like Dickinson and Houstan since the transfer replacements are not at all likely to be as good as either of them. The best C right now in the portal is considered to be Aimaq - that guy is not replacing Hunter on offense. And if Frankie is going to leave because of a PG coming in, then it’s a one for one swap.

If Frankie is Simpson Year 2 next year, Michigan is fine with guys like Dickinson and Houstan. They are not likely to be fine if they don’t have those guys.

Any transfers you take, need to be solid shooters. That, in and of itself, will help Frankie and Dug.

Unlike Zavier, he can actually get to the rim and score.

Oh man, we’re back to bizarre Zavier Simpson slander? Twighlight zone lol. Turn back your calendars to 2019.

But why can’t he be? He’s as fast as any Big Ten guard I’ve seen in years sans maybe Ivey. He’s crafty. Has a good euro. He should end up being a transition demon.

Let’s also not count out shooting improvement. Even Simpson shot 36% from three his senior year. Take a look at what Terrance Williams did from his freshman to sophomore season give me half that improvement from Collins and he will be more than fine.

Also I’m probably about to be told by the site I can’t reply because of new member posting restrictions. I’m not new😐

??? Zavier Simpson was an elite scorer for his height at the rim.

Well, that’s definitely not what I said, so…

Why do you think he had to develop the hook shot? He couldn’t score at the rim.

The point is the nail biting FTs can be worth it if the PG offers other things.

Frankie has the potential to be a way better scorer at the rim.

Yes, Michigan needs a 2/3 more than a PG. You can ignore the various times I’ve said, clarified, and re-clarified this fact, or you can acknowledge that it’s possible to think that and still be uncomfortable with Collins heading into next year.

Brooks was included to show that players do regularly develop. That’s sort of the name of the game in college basketball. For Morris and Simpson (heck, even Burke in a different sense) their huge jumps came between freshman and sophomore year.

Collins showed a lot of good tools. I’m excited to see him after a full offseason of work.

Re: X and Frankie. I’ve said this before but we were in basically the exact situation as that year PG wise(bad freshman that can’t shoot, incoming recruit at PG), with a less open portal and we took a PG cause we were not at all confident in what we were getting.

Obviously it turned out that X became the best option but we covered ourselves in case that didn’t work out. I don’t think Frankie has given us much more to be confident in than X did. So not out of the realm of possibility were bad enough at PG it tanks our season. But I also agree we have other needs more pressing. Speaks to the very thin line we’re potentially walking on for next year

If you sort players up to 6’1 with >150 close 2 attempts in ALL years of Torvik’s data, Simpson’s 63.3% in 2020 is 20th all time. Some of you seem to be thinking Collins is going to achieve this very easily.

X was incredible at the rim by his senior year so that’d be something

Are hook shots counted in those figures? Serious question.

I think close is defined as “within 3 feet of the rim”

So probably some are, some not.

Well we also didn’t have a true PG freshman coming in so if we didn’t take a PG transfer our backup to Simpson would’ve been combo guard freshman Eli Brooks.

I’m not opposed to a PG transfer, but I’m still excited about what Frankie can be.

No. Hook shots are “other twos.” He shot 25/81 on those for 30.9% and 95/150 at the rim for 63.3% per Torvik

Really? I thought close was defined by geography, not shot method.
