Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk (Part 2)

Pretty much argued like you’d expect a lawyer(not McCann himself) who represents the clippers will argue. He seems to think nothing major will happen unless a true smoking gun is found and doubted nba teams would want to start having the onus of policing the endorsement deals their players have. Also said the players association would fight back in a huge way about teams policing endorsement deals.

You have no idea how seriously I take this assignment.

Overall i kind a feel like if this was the nfl the hammer would be coming because they actually do rule on common sense/circumstantial evidence and aren’t scared of any reprecussion from any of their teams, players association and owners. I feel like the nba is a lot softer is very concerned about repercussions and will buy the lawyer type arguments the clippers will give.

There’s another article behind a pay wall about Kawhi’s demands in returning to Toronto. Long story short.

Trade for Paul George
10 mil sponsorship income where they do nothing
Partial ownership in Toronto Maple Leafs
Partial ownership in other MLSE affiliates

you forgot “change official Ontario provincial bird from the loon to the Leonard”

I do know that Toronto did report this to the NBA when it happened.

Need a welfare check on @mgl

ok, I don’t relish listening to AKME using the last three months of the year and this contract to retroactively legitimize the bad trade they made nor do I really want to hear him discussed as a “franchise player” for four years as he surely will be.

but, this is slightly better than average starter money, and I’d say that he’s a roughly average level of starter

So the deal on the terms is “fine”. I’m sure someone would trade for it if the Bulls did trades.

It doesn’t get the team closer to being “good” obviously.

what if it goes in?

I can’t believe this is a thing the league and players are worried about :joy:

This is the same as college. They only count if they go in.

I thought they already made this a rule

There were some of the Pistons fans in a tizzy when Cade and Duren were seen together with Beasley in Rome on social media, and they thought that they’re going to get Beasley back, but alas

I think Ausar and Ron were the main (only?) Detroit guys who attempted shots past half court last year so I look forward to more Pistons hoisting bombs this year.

I’m happy about it because a lot of players just hold the ball at the end of quarters rather than launch a shot that will hurt their 3PT%. They care too much about those things when it comes to contracts and accolades. I’m all for giving the players something to incentivize the heaves

Steph is one of the few superstar who heaves it regardless because he didn’t care and is confident that he can make it lol

and even if you grant that some nba players are worried about it making a small but meaningful difference in contract negotiations, he’s probably not worried about anyone bringing up a “he can’t hit the 3” criticism

Al Maguire said that if a heave goes in from past half-court it should only count as two points since it’s just by luck, not skill, that it goes in.
