Their offense is really bad and McDaniels, though immensely talented, coasts a lot. Losing a ton of games (many close) has probably worn on the team.
They’ve lost a ton of close games. One spot behind Arizona State in KenPom. ASU is 10-6 in conference, Washington is 3-13. Dead last in KPs luck metric.
Yeah every time I watch ASU and hope they lose, they win. I shouldn’t watch when they are on TV.
This feels notable.
They were my sleeper coming into this year. It makes no sense. Hopkins has done horribly, they are the most unorganized / undisciplined team out there.
They also have lost more close games than just about anyone. 8 or 9 losses by 6 or less in games where they were up late in just about all of them.
They didn’t have quade for over half their games. It’s the other side of the coin of what can go wrong in the five star one and done role. McDaniel was an absolute joke until the last five or 6 games. Completely sloppy and the most undisciplined kid I’ve seen all year.
It’s a shame because Stewart has been amazing. Hopkins is so bad at drawing up offense I’d literally just toss it inside every posession. No one can guard him down low and he always gets a great look, they’ve totally wasted his talents.
Who knows maybe they will finally get it together and play to their potential in Vegas and win their tourney,
I also saw they were dead last in luck for what it’s worth in Ken Pom. If they even have won half the games they lost by one or two possessions after blowing a lead late they’d be on the bubble.
No spectators at the games feels like an over reaction right now. Depending on how the coronavirus spreads or doesn’t in the next couple of weeks, it may end up as the right thing to do.
Context for those who won’t click on it, this is in relation to the DIII men’s tournament.
Arizona St seems like an interesting case for the committee. Have now lost 3 straight after winning 6 or 7 straight. Net of 53. They lost to every respectable opponent in nonconference. But even after their 2 straight losses BracketMatrix has them as one of the top 9 seeds: with a lot of brackets having them an 8 and a lot having them an 11.
BracketMatrix isn’t updated for today, but Bracketville is one of the best brackets by rankings and they are still a 9 seed as of this morning. Which is wild to me that there is only a 3 seed line difference between us and them.
Lunardi has them as an 11 seed in the play-in game for the third year in a row… Set to play Michigan if they win… Winner gets Josh Christopher
Please no play in opponent!
I’m hoping to get paired with auburn for our second round game
I imagine that would be annoying for you - half the time to write a preview.
The bigger issue is that there’s nothing to do content wise the first half of the week.
Kentucky would be a good matchup too
I saw one that had Texas tech in a play in game with Michigan being the next opponent, no thanks to that one
I like that draw though
That’s not true. You can write a bunch of articles based on whatever Josh Christopher is posting on social media those days.
That team is so difficult to watch. I watched most of their game with Washington last night. Between their half-empty arena, their guards being allowed to shoot from anywhere inside the halfcourt line, and Hurley going ape on officials on a regular basis, it’s painful. I wouldn’t mind being paired with them in the tourney, though. I think that would be great matchup for us.
Yeah, I’ve watched them like 5 times this year and they are not good. If they played in the Big Ten they wouldn’t be a tourney team.
