College Basketball Open Discussion

ISU may just kick WV in the posterior. Lot of time still left.

Quite a resurgence for Shaka Smart and Ed Cooley this year.

Remember when many people were saying Yaklich’s success was personnel-dependent/a fluke because of Texas’ lack of success? 5 straight wins. 5 straight games with opponents under 1 PPP (and well below in most of those). No seniors. 18th nationally in D efficiency.

I think the point wasn’t that his success was definitely personnel driven/a fluke. The point was that we didn’t know just how good he was because our only data points included a team with X, Matthews and Teske. It was moreso a “let’s see how he does without 3 elite defenders in the lineup.” I mostly saw the argument made in the context of not handing over the keys to Yaklich after Beilein without enough of a proven track record. And in fairness, Texas was a train wreck earlier this year around the time the discussion popped up again.

I like Yak a lot and wish him well and I don’t blame him or Juwan for not wanting to come back as an assistant. I’m glad to see he is part of the turnaround for Texas down the stretch. He is a really good coach with a bright future.

Against the 128, 174, 71, 49 and 69th ranked offenses in college hoops

In all seriousness, I think it is good for Texas to turn things around like this, but it is crazy that there are nine Big Ten offenses that are as good or better than the No. 3 offense in the Big 12.

Didn’t mean from a this past offseason perspective in determining who should replace Beilein. I see what you’re saying, though.

Shaka Smart did not designate Yaklich his “defensive coordinator” as far as I’m aware. Isn’t this just a typically solid if not spectacular Smart defense? I haven’t seen enough of Texas to say, but since Smart was known as a defense-first coach, I doubt he’d delegate that much responsibility to Yaklich. I think Luke is a first-rate coach who will be a head coach in D-I sooner than later, but I don’t know how much effect he has had upon the team’s defensive schemes.

Jordan’s NCAA Tournament preview was awesome last year… You should preorder it! I’m also helping out this year.

Ordered!!! One of my good friends showed me this last year, and I was mad I didn’t get it myself. Excited to check out the 2020 edition.

Really curious to see what the impact of the coronavirus is on the NCAA Tournament.

I saw that earlier today, and couldn’t help but wonder what percentage of the decision was based on COVID-19 fear, and what percentage was based on being tired of losing games.

… and budget.

Yeah Chicago State saw a way to get out of an expensive road trip.

Do you figure the women’s team had to cancel their home games for the sake of appearance?

They probably lose money on women’s home games too.

Could also be a monetary tie between “home and home” games between mens/women’s teams. If you don’t get the home men’s game then maybe don’t travel for the womens game.

Why is Washington so bad?

Quade Green their point guard was ruled academically ineligible in early January. Think they’ve won 2 or 3 games since.
