Exactly what I was gonna say. Not really at all concerned about resume. Having the Gonzaga win in our pocket is plenty and will carry plenty of weight when factoring in the conference strength.
Absolutely. Need to start winning some road games though. Michigan will probably only be favored in 2-3 out of those 9 games. That’s why you want the “birds in the hand” with resume wins like Oregon on the plate or for Iowa State to turn their season around to make that a good neutral court win.
It seems more true this year—just make the damned dance and see what happens. The disparity in talent between, say, a 3 seed versus a 7 seed will be more narrow than it’s been that I can recall in years. I can see a 2-3 double-digits seeds even making it to the second weekend. Of course a high seed would be preferable, but I don’t see easy street ahead for any teams going in.
Completely agree. This is a really weird year for college basketball.
Sure, but how many of those do we actually win? That is the source of the concern.
Well, if Michigan doesn’t win several of those games… a home loss to Oregon isn’t really going to matter.
The season was always going to hinge on how U-M does in the Big Ten.
Not sure I follow that logic. If Michigan doesn’t win several of those games then the only thing giving them a chance at the NCAA would have been wins over Gonzaga and Oregon.
The logic is that Michigan has to play nine games that are as important from a resume-perspective as Oregon.
The Oregon game is 1 of 17 Q1 games on Michigan’s resume (not even including the Big Ten tourney). Don’t overrate the importance of that one game compared to all of the other quality games that U-M has to play.
Agree. Having had Isaiah out, putting together a new team concept, the real question will be more whether they start to gel down the stretch, less what the record is.
With you there; I’d prefer to have an 11-9 team gelling mid-February than a 12-8 or 13-7 team losing three late with an early bounce from the B1G tourney. Timing is everything with one-and-dones.
What are we considering the new team concept? I still think any team concept is a lot better with Isaiah Livers included.
Yeah, of course. Sorry, don’t get what you’re saying. . . I meant a new coaching philosophy this year, not since Isaiah went out.
Fair enough, they were tied together in the way you wrote it which threw me off.
I very much enjoyed this exchange.
Literally made me LOL when I saw it.
Gottleib is literally the worst. Total tool.
Payton Pritchard hit a couple of bombs late in regulation and then to win the game in OT over Washington. What a player. He took over the game just like he did against us. Tough to say who’s better, but I might take Pritchard over Winston as the best PG in the country.
Creighton with the dagger 3 with 2 seconds left
Gottlieb and Walton are the only two commentators who draw an automatic mute from me if I have to watch a game either one is calling.
Walton can be a fun trip if you are in for the ride.
Dickie V on the other hand…
