I don’t understand this Gif. Is he implying Beilein is going to get the job?

Try the last name in your decoder…

Woodson the former IU player and not Charles Woodson the Heisman winner.

It’s only worth it if you give him a mandate to implement a succession plan. He’d need to bring on an associate head coach early. Perhaps Yak or Saadi. Not to mention his heart condition.

He would worry me vs Beilein, but Juwan just landed arguably the best class in UM history since his own. Picked the pockets of the existing national powers.

That gif is perfect for me not understanding it too:joy::joy:

It simply makes no sense to put Beilein in charge of finding his successor.

It’s impossible to predict what the coaching market will look like 5+ years fr now.

That goes against the core principles of leadership, but you do you.

Can’t get any closer than EMU. Do it coach!

It would actually be incompent leadership for an AD not to make the decision on who to hire to be the coach of a major basketball program.

Disagree. He gets everything he wants at TTU. Better facilities and stadium. Brand new state of the art practice facility. UT rents theirs. UT does not not have their own basketball facilities. TTU already recruits at the level of UT. TTU’s fan base is fervent/loyal, while UT’s is indifferent. TTU will also pay him more.

I’m giving you all these tidbits so that you will understand when he turns it down.

Good leaders hire and develop their subordinates to take on bigger roles. With a mandate in place you have an opportunity to hire and develop a rising coaching talent. It wouldn’t be the first time. And if it doesn’t work out, there’s always the coaching carousel.
With a good partnership between coach and AD it could work. Both are leaders. The coach even more so imo.

Hiring a basketball coach and then having them take one of your two biggest jobs as an AD is not good leadership.

It would still be the AD’s ultimate call. I’m not saying he should abdicate his responsibility. But having a succession plan option could be a workable scenario. Wouldn’t be the first time an assistant was groomed for the job.

I mean that’s really just hiring good assistants.

It’s the potential to ultimately take on the top job in the not too distant future that makes it all the easier to hire them. It’s an important part of framing the opportunity.

But if everybody involved knows there’s no guarantee of that, whats the value? The opportunity to work with and learn under a terrific head coach and offensive mind is all the value you need to offer to attract top assistant coaches.

Coaches will use it as an opportunity and a step up for any job they seem worthy. They won’t pass up favorable offerings to take over other programs.

Likewise the school is obviously going to evaluate all the available options.

You hire Beilein because you think he’ll give you a good 5 or however so many years and will leave you a healthy program in good position that will be attractive to the best available candidates.

You do not hire Beilein expecting him to provide you five good years and your next head coach.

UT rent TTU’s basketball facility, Seriously? Lubbock is pretty far from Austin.
