Oh boy I would be just so triggered if Brad Underwood went to Texas after some of the best candidates are off the board and Illinois fans would be left with a single Big Ten tournament banner with which to console themselves. Brad Underwood, just know that would really upset this here Michigan fan.

I’d rather he stay so we can beat him.

Actually, you’re exactly right. Although it would also be short-term amusing if Mark Turgeon’s pining for the Midwest leads him to Illinois.

These scenarios are too awesome, I hate you guys

In news I don’t know where else to put, Michigan hockey has a positive covid and has to withdraw from the tournament game I was going to go to today. Yikes.

Ouch, that really stinks for them.

Yeah, I mean having to come to Fargo sucks in the first place but then having a covid positive AND having to forfeit is a bit much.

IU 247 board now seems to think Porter Moser is gonna be the hire. Would make sense as a reason why they haven’t made a hire since he’s still coaching. Not a bad hire, but not a great hire. Could easily see him bomb. His track record is just very weird.

Some weird takes in here from Cronin. His comment at the end about how “you can die for your country but you can’t put your name in the draft” comes out of nowhere. I think he caught himself mid-rant and corrected course to sound more pro-player. Otherwise a 5-star might read this and think this guy is going to blast me if I spurn UCLA for the G League.

Better than the other names I was seeing. We’ll see how he does. It’s pretty clear he can coach a mean defense. Let’s see his recruiting and offense

in the clip i saw of him on goodman’s podcast he was literally complaining that the nba/g-league was trying to take away college basketball’s “market share” and complaining that college had a “free” farm system for the nba for 40 years and now the nba was taking kids out from underneath them to take away the market share…

that’s rich, considering that college basketball has not paid the employees anything despite their market share dominance to date…

You were there? Man. I was putting out feelers for heading over tomorrow if they beat UMD (since I live in Duluth, I might have found a source).

Devastating. Hope basketball can keep things clean for as long as it takes.

These Turgeon-to-Illinois scenarios are the pick-me-up I need after that hockey news, btw.

That quote is as pro-player as possible.

Correct, at the end of an interview spent grousing about shady G League recruiters undermining him.

right. this was after he ranted about how evil it was for the g league to (gasp) PAY kids to play basketball…

Beilein 4 Illinois.

It has now been put out into the world and cannot be taken back.

Yeah, that’s true. I see two separate issues that aren’t necessarily connected.

  1. Nix had committed to play for him, and he’s charging negative recruiting practices by the NBA/G League swayed Nix to go the pro route. I’m not surprised that Cronin is pissed about that. I would be, too. It’d be a helpless feeling because there’s nothing a coach can do to combat it. Not only do guys have to recruit against national college power programs, they also have to recruit against a pro league that can offer cash and not require kids to go to school.

  2. Cronin believes that kids should have every right to go pro right out of HS if that’s what they want to do.

Coaching and also likeability upgrade.

That fanbase does not deserve Beilein.
