This is the job I think Beard could leave TTU for. Stay in Texas, only move ~ 6 hours away and go closer to the heart of the state, go back to his alma mater, and go to a program that has better resources and is a bigger draw to recruits. Not saying I think it happens, but this is much more realistic than Beard to IU.

Also it’s been brought up elsewhere but Smart was born in Madison and grew up in Wisconsin, so this is a homecoming for him as well.

Everyone assumes that Beilein is chomping at the bit to get back into high D1 coaching again. I’m not so sure. I’m sure that some schools have put out feelers, but not sure that he has reciprocated. People also forget that he had bypass surgery a few years ago, that Kathleen may not be keen on getting back into the grind that kept him away from family for most of the year.

Not sure we know how much urgency Beilein is bringing to the search, or what criteria? Quite possible he has removed himself from some of these searches after a quick look in. . .

The other thing is that VCU was a good mid-major before Shaka. They didn’t go to the Final Four of course, but under Capel and Grant they were regularly making the tournament. He basically just had to keep the machine rolling along. Texas asked him to rebuild their program, and he hasn’t been too successful at that.

Shaka recruiting in the Midwest will probably be somewhat annoying.

I think he is chomping at the bit to get back. But I would guess he’s only going to want to go to a place where he can win reasonably quickly and can stay relatively close to Ann Arbor. And those jobs are filling up… Would he go to Cincinatti?

Not the debate I want to get into since it’s been run to the ground, but the Beilein interviews I’ve seen lead me to believe Beilein wants to coach. Badly.

Did Chris ask Borzello to, uh, quietly drop that tidbit?

Shaka is an upgrade for Marquette from their last coach.

For the sake of the quiet dignity that Beilein has always embodied, I’d say playing his cards a little bit close to the chest would not be a surprise. Even more if he really wants to get back at it?

That is an easy call. Wojo is an embarrassment

Cincinatti? No.

If beard passes, I bet Underwood will be Texas’ second call

I’d be pretty shocked if Beard doesn’t take that job. Better school with better resources and gets to stay in his home state and coach at his alma mater. Austin >>> Lubbock too. Seems like a no brainer.

You are right but @goblue8 just got me way too excited

That sounds like a smart comment to me. One thing Shaka could do is recruit.
