College Basketball Open Discussion

reminder: Garrison Brooks was the preseason ACC POTY

Is Dolezaj bizarro world Franz where he never develops an offensive game?

Also, Caleb Love makes Chase Audige look like a superstar. Numbers are impressively poor

Joe Girard! A guy Michigan slow played then offered and he still chose Syracuse if I recall.

Girard shoots FTs well and that is about it. Might as well be slightly well to do Foster Loyer out there.

I believe he got an offer but we ghosted him eventually. Took Cole instead

Wait, how?!?!?

I’ve seen quite a bit of Syracuse both last season and this one.

Girard needs to be off the ball to shoot a high percentage, but his height makes it difficult to play anything other than PG. Especially on defense. The 2-3 zone doesn’t work too well without the typical Syracuse length. The guy can makes shots off the dribble, both inside and outside the arc, but he’s streaky.

Dolezaj actually has myriad offensive skills which are under-utilized.

Being without Sidibe has really hurt the Orange this year, especially on the defensive end. Quincy Guerrier has been good, but he was great as a spark plug sixth man last season.

Also watch a lot of Syracuse basketball (the curse of living in that area and having every friend be an SU fan).

Girard: Actually had an OK freshman year - but really has shown no improvement this year. Has a good looking shot, but takes a lot of questionable shots (not in the flow of the offense). Like Pittsnogled said he’s a 2 guard with the physical makeup of a 1. Girard really struggles to finish inside. This year I feel the 'Cuse offense has been so much better when Kadary Richmond has been running point (like the majority of last night). I think teams started to really press and be physical with Girard and he kind of fell apart.

In regard to Dolezaj - I really like his “I’m going to do the dirty work” game, but he is nooooo wwwhhhheeeerreeee close to Franz’s level. He has vision, but is not a creator - but he will hustle and fight for everything. He’s got decent touch and can pull you out 10-15 feet.

Wasn’t sure if anyone else is signed up for the NCAA March Madness ticket emails, but I just got my first pre-sale email. Here’s the dates of ticket sales FYI:

How do I get signed up for that?

Here’s the email address that was sent to me: tickets@mail2.ncaa.com Maybe send them an email requesting pre-sale access? There’s a lottery for final four tickets that I signed up for years ago, you pay like $200 per session, $600 overall and get 4 cheap tickets in the nosebleeds. That’s where I first started getting these emails. Here’s the main website for NCAA tickets: https://www.ncaatickets.com/

Thank you!

Interesting approach to dealing with officials from Nate Oats…

A few follow-ups below the orginial tweet that are worth reading.

I like it. Even my junior high kids question every single call. I just tell them to let me worry about it because I’m the only one that can do something about it. Might try this bit in practice next season.

Sounds a bit too extreme for my liking.

Just grab a few practice refs. I’m sure they won’t be perfect. Teachable moments ensue.

why? has Alabama gotten a bunch of techs this year?

It’s an extreme measure for a coach to take, but if it allows the kids to focus on what’s going to happen next (or you’re simply tired of watching it), then maybe it’s worthwhile. Enforcement might be a hurdle (thinking about a junior high level team now), since there’s a big difference between saying it and making it happen, and no coach wants to be subbing someone out after every whistle. When I coached HS ball, there were a select few kids who got to the point where they were not allowed to speak to an official because I got tired of their constant complaining (and tired of them getting T’d up). I never even considered making any type of team rule about it.

If you read the thread, it seems like more than anything else, Oats is just sick of watching it. One quote hints at accountability.

They’re human beings. It’s natural for them to react to a call they don’t like. Imagine the Wagner brothers being stone faced all game…
