The team was a top 10 team at worst when fully healthy.
Yeah I guess so. I enjoyed their career and they accomplished a great deal, but by the end of year 4 I was perfectly fine moving onto the next era. I was a big big X fan from his freshman year on, and appreciated how much Teske improved over time. I think part of it is the offense being so dependent on those two (not their fault) and the feeling that they could be neutralized by good teams. Teske especially was asked to be an offensive option he was never comfortable with. They were great representative’s for the university except for the Jeff Jones Simpson episode
Yup. Being glad that the winningest players in program history are outta here is an odd thing. Saying they were treading water when this is not true is also a weird thing to say. I’m not sure what the deal is with people posting obviously controversial opinions and then pulling surprise pikachu faces when others respond exactly how you’d expect they’d respond, but I’m not really gonna jump into this debate further than: “Simpson and Teske were unequivocally great for Michigan basketball.”
I have no issues with any responses to what I posted. I appreciate different takes that make me reconsider my thoughts. Alls I ask is not attributing things to me I never said.
This board is solid…opinions are welcome. Success is measured in wins from where I sit.
I’ve been thinking about this…I feel like I judge coaches by wins, but haven’t spent much thought attributing win count to players. It’s almost a backhanded accomplishment/stat because they weren’t good enough to leave early. (For example, I feel confident that Trey Burke would have the most wins if he played 4 seasons lol). Maybe I’m just stoned, but it’s a stat I’ve truly never cared about, other than to say “oh, cool for them”.
For the record, we were blessed to have Simpson and Teske roll through our program. We almost got a Natty, and they played in a lot of meaningful games (with varied success). I think I’ll most remember them, sadly, as the leaders who were robbed of one last hurrah because of COVID.
Treading water may be a fair description, but you might say the only reason they didn’t drown was due to Simpson and to a lesser degree Teske. Without Livers the team dynamic changed and Franz didn’t pick up until the second half of the B1G season if memory serves me correct.
Those two had limitations to their game without a doubt, and both drove me nuts on many nights, lol, yet without them, and Livers as well, that team isnt’ close to treading water.
With that said, loved their effort and play and dedication to get everything they could but I am so excited to see what this team can do and really think that Howard may, “MAY” take the team even higher which is saying something.
GO BLUE
A gratuitous negative comment about the two winningest players in M men’s hoop history. . . likely to elicit a little bit of courteous pushback.
One of the things I cherish about this place is that a lot of the people here have pushed to keep it respectful of the players, especially as people, to resist when the talk became negative. Head out into the wider world of message boards, you quickly see how rare that is.
Florida and FSU just started with a morning tip at 11 AM. It’s 11-3 Florida with 16:18 left but a pause in action since Florida’s star Keyontae Johnson apparently collapsed while walking off the court. There’s no other info available, he’s been taken off the court and presumably to a hospital, but the game is starting back up.
Keep Keyontae in your thoughts since this is an incredibly scary situation.
Broadcast and the beat writers have confirmed that he’s headed to the hospital. No other updates yet. Kind of surprised they’re finishing this game.
Apparently FSU/Hamilton gave Florida/White the option to cancel the rest of the game but Florida wanted to play. I can’t imagine playing after a situation like that but if the players want to then I understand the game continuing.
Hadn’t heard that part. Excellent sportsmanship from Hamilton and agree that there’s no issue if UF players were willing to continue. Can’t imagine playing either, my head would be out of it.
From a basketball perspective, Castleton just got absolutely posterized by Scottie Barnes. It almost happened earlier in the game but Castleton fouled Barnes hard enough to prevent the dunk. Not so much luck this time.
Those who enjoy blue blood schadenfreude as much as I do may be interested in checking out Notre Dame-Kentucky on CBS. Notre Dame up 27-9 with a free throw coming after the under 12.
I don’t want to laugh because next year UM is probably going to be in the same situation as Kentucky of being talented but super young and inexperienced. So I fear some of these same growing pains.
And the talent on this Kentucky roster is absolutely insane. Wow what a rough start for them this year.
I mean it’s Kentucky, so they obviously have great talent, but it’s actually a down year for them roster wise. They “only” had two 5 stars come in last year, plus four 4 stars (one of which is a PG who reclassified which as we’re seeing with Lander at IU isn’t a recipe for success as a freshman). They also have 3 transfers who came in this year coming from Wake Forest, Rhode Island and Creighton. Sarr and Mintz are fine players, but were 3 stars out of HS. Mintz was a secondary player at Creighton, and Sarr was probably overrated as a transfer. The only returning player for UK, Keion Brooks, is out as well right now.
This Kentucky roster, and Duke as well honestly, are reminders that even a top level recruiting class can come in and struggle when you don’t have those players at a Zion level who are #1/#2 overall players. It’s exacerbated this year with the lack of prep each team had because of COVID, but unless Michigan gets Chet this should be a reminder that especially early in the season, a team of all talented young guys will probably struggle. This could be an issue for Michigan next year, so it’ll be important to see who comes back that could leave (ie Johns, Franz), which of any seniors use their extra year of eligibility, and what transfers Michigan takes to mitigate some of these issues.
Kentucky lol. Hate to see it
