College basketball corruption charges

It is absolutely fair to do so.

Every high level coach at the D1 level knows who cheats. The issue is, none of them will rat anyone out. Why? They’ll never get hired by anyone if they do. Remember the assistant at Baylor that recorded the conversation of Dave Bliss lying about one of his players to cover up a murder? He’s never got another job in the business.

Bruce Pearl did after his shenanigans at Iowa!

Stuff happened at Iowa and he couldn’t get a D1 job (assistant or head) after that for 9 years. He won a ton at Southern Indiana and finally got the Milwaukee job.

We will see what happens here, but wonder how Jalen Wilson feels if they get postseason bans.

I have sympathy for many things. This would not be one of them…

In his defense, it’s really hard to turn down 7 minutes per game at a program that is facing the possibility of major sanctions. And the fans are loud.

Exactly this.

The NCAA may also tell Kansas they can’t buy PS5s on release date for their players’ lounge. They’ll have to wait a week.

It’s not Wilson but dominos are falling

Lack of institutional control is the big one.

Unless self gets a massive show cause it will barely impact ku

Why is that a surprise? The cheaters playbook says to deny deny deny and eventually the NCAA just goes away and you get a slap on the wrist.

It’s not like this is totally unprecedented.

Of course, it’s a different time and we’ll have to wait and see what happens with basketball powers like Kansas and Arizona.

Traditionally, though, Duke and UNC seem to be the only basketball programs above the law when it comes to the NCAA.

…and a KU football surprise.

Clearly Kansas is getting the death penalty at the end of all of this.

Kansas football, that is.

I find it hard to believe that Bill Self is truly in the crosshairs, but USA Today’s Dan Wolken really seems to think so:

“It’s easy enough to look at these slimy college basketball coaches, the greedy shoe companies and the hypocritical NCAA and wish for a plague on all their houses. But someone has to be made an example of to keep the amateurism con going. It appears that burden is going to fall directly on Self’s neck.”

Between Self, Wade, Pearl, and Sean Miller, it seems like at least one of them will used to make an example…Pearl and Wade perhaps are easier targets than Self or Miller.

Coming down hard on Wade might not impact other coaches behavior, but if Self, Pearl, or Miller get hit hard, I’d have to think that would resonate with some coaches around the country.

Maybe just a matter of where the most egregious evidence was available. None of those guys should be treated with respect by us or the media again, though, IMO. And the practice of putting coaches in the HOF before their careers are over wants questioning. I keep seeing references to “Hall of Fame Coach Bill Self.”
