College Basketball 2023-24 Discussion

I feel contracts just scale to the coach market. If you’re Louisville, why would you outbid no one and make it harder to get out of the contract?

If the ACC implodes, Louisville is probably far down the pecking order of the poachable schools. Im sure Kentucky doesnt want them on the SEC and no way would they be a part of the big10. I’d say this hire might have something to do with the sports future of UL

100%. Dusty May had three bidders. Kelsey had one.

You don’t pay someone more than you have to just because you are Louisville.

Same reason Juwan’s first contract was very low.

Big 12, for sure.

Anyone know what happened to Vescovi this year? He’s shot nearly half as many 3s this year?

Counterpoint

All his shots are way down

Adding a guy who takes 17 shots per game probably has something to do with it

Let’s get crazy… Which “Big Three” would you rather have transfer to Michigan?

I am going to put my stake down and say Kelsey will be better than this board gives him credit for (which, frankly doesn’t seem to be a high bar).

Won multiple conference titles at two different schools. That is usually a solid indicator that a guy can coach. I’d guess they’ll at least be solid under Kelsey.

I also don’t quite get PJ Fleck as an insult except for the antics part. Kelsey is loud but alot of coaches have personalities that I would find grating if I had to spend alot of time with them. Minnesota football has 9 seasons of 8+ wins since the 70s. Fleck has 3 of those seasons. Louisville is obviously a better basketball job than Minnesota is a football job, but I don’t see why Louisville won’t be back to being an NCAA regular under Kelsey. Alot depends on how the ACC shakes out with realignment and all that BS

Chose Montana state over wazzu

Wazzu is basically in a disaster situation. I don’t know why anyone would take that job.

Big Sky > Pac Nothing

Are Wazzu and Oregon State (they are the other one, right?) just going to be independent in '24-'25?

They are affiliate members for the WCC in hoops.

I’m assuming some April Fool’s lag but there is a twitter movement that Ed Cooley is retiring

It will be fascinating to see how they do in the WCC. Will they slot in at the #3-4 spots in the conference and be like BYU was where they can be a 3rd at large team in that league or will they just become regular run of the mill mid majors like San Francisco/Santa Clara who have no shot at an at large bid most years?
