I just don’t like the whole over-eager over-sloganed vibe he puts off. He’s won a lot, but also at jobs that are generally “good jobs” where you can win easily.
He has won a lot though and has experience. I don’t think he’s an insane hire, but Louisville hiring a Mack-tree guy is wild to me, in general, based on how that went.
I don’t know that fans or media would see a difference between Schertz and Kelsey if the order in which they had been approached had been reversed, that’s probably our Dylan-Koolaid hivemind kink
yea he took over at Charleston because Grant landed Boston College. it’s not the Grand Canyon experience but the competition is UNCW which cranks out mediocre P6 promotions like Keatts, Brownell, etc
Grant’s last team was the Covid year and BC hired him anyway. he just won 20 games in Year 3 at one of the most moribund P6 programs. he’s been top-170 all three years, .500 the past two
all to say I don’t think 225 is reflective of anything, just Covid noise. I don’t think Kelsey had a notorious rebuild at Charleston.
I won’t claim to know a gd thing about Charleston basketball other than what I can see on Torvik and don’t really know who Earl Grant is, but can say he turned out the 2 of the 3 best teams they’ve had in the past 18 years in his three seasons there, the best being a Bobby Cremins (!?) team in 2011.
He also had the five best seasons Winthrop had in Torvik’s database (don’t know sh*t about them either)
It seems he has elevated the pay where he has been. I know he’s a try hard annoying guy.
I am surprised that guys from Charleston and Indiana State have been afforded to up-jump all the way to Louisville - something I would not expect remotely, but this cycle doesn’t seem to have a single HM coach looking for a gig
Well, if Kelsey falls through I do know of a coach who is currently not employed who has P6 experience; took his former team to a E8 finish and a #1 seed plus a conference championship…
