College Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

Seems like there is an inherent tension between “transferring because he’s being pushed to return earlier than he wants” and jakes breathless “eligible immediately”

I know one speaks simply to whether he is allowed by NCAA rule to play, but still.

Guess… One is the kid texting Jake to hype himself up, the other is a handler texting Goodman wanting him to get a waiver

Come on, this is consistent for Jake’s schtick. There are about fifty 5* guys in every recruiting class and then everyone else is a high four star. There are also probably a couple dozen all Americans

Fardaws Aimaq is a BIG GUARD!

Sounds familiar, looking at our roster

Didn’t we used to say this about Beilein, too? I would like to hear from people in the know, but I suspect that offense is primarily what’s being looked at, especially with the best players. The assumption being that they can be taught to play D.

Aaaand it’s gone

Donovan Clingan is so good. Such a bummer that kid’s family was Connecticut basketball royalty.

They were connecticut basketball royalty?

My description may have been a bit over the top but he’s very deeply tied to the state for family reasons, which is what I was trying to sya

I also read that as UConn basketball royalty and was trying to figure out if his mother was Rebecca Lobo…

Nah Connecticut the state, not the university

Sure seems like Clingan is really good. Haven’t seen them play. Although if Juwan never recruited a slow-footed offense-only big man again I would be absolutely fine with that. Not that I’m in a rush for HD to leave – exactly the opposite – but the Papa/Tarris era also sounds appealing.

It will be interesting. If our center could jump out of the gym and was an elite rim runner/protector he’d be in the NBA. Guys like Hunter, Clingan, Timme, TJD are a market opportunity in college. I think the key is to build the right roster around them and we haven’t quite had that with Hunter except his freshman year (shooters, ball screen guys, and some decent perimeter defenders).

Will be very interesting to see how aggressively U-M plays through the post with far less talented post-up scorers after Dickinson. I suspect very aggressively and I’m not sure what that will look like.

Also, if Tarris is the starting big post-Dickinson… how excited are we about Michigan’s rim protection and defense?

Great point. I’m very curious as well about the future of the 5 spot under Juwan. You did note the postups to the backup big throughout the years on the latest Pin Down. When you have Austin Davis that’s a good idea, but maybe not when you’re bringing in Johns. It also made me think of Jon Teske on the first possession of every game in Juwan’s first year. Maybe they should go to HD on the first possession of every game or half now.

More excited than we are now!

FWIW: Michigan on pace for its best shot blocking season since Ekpe Udoh (currently ahead of that pace right now).

How many of those blocked shots have they secured? Seems like they end up back in the hands of the opposition.

Not sure, but I assume that generally blocks are going to end up as offensive rebounds more than other misses.
