Its way more competitive than salaries for first year fiba guys. You generally have to work into the big salaries in Europe, the guys that make a million+/yr abroad have been at it awhile or are guys who have just left the nba.
NIL is definitely competitive with overseas salaries. IIRC, you need to be an elite player in a tier 1 league to make into the millions (which usually means being in your prime years). Whereas Sanogo should be able to make a million somewhere with NIL.
Youāre underestimating clinganās D. He might not be Kessler but Kessler has been fantastic. If youāre a drop coverage team itās gonna be hard to find someone better than clingan
Looking at the early top 25s and considering recruiting people say the 2023 class is awful, next year looks really bad for cbb.
How many programs do we think are giving out seven figure NIL dollars? Iām not saying it isnāt possible, and I know there have been instances like Miami and Texas A&m where they are throwing around piles of cash supposedly, but Iām just not sure how many programs are paying seven figures. Thatās better than many second round NBA draft picks.
If I were to guess I would say Hunter and the football guys are in the low to mid six figures
All Iām saying is I do not see 1st round pick that people are seeing from Clingan. I was not impressed every time I watched UConn play. Maybe I didnāt catch a good game out of Clingan but I think NBA will be disappointed if they draft him at 1st and expect a good defensive player similar to Kessler.
Hunter was believed to have cleared a mil last year, but thereās nothing confirming that.
Kessler looked awful as a freshman. Clingan is already ahead of him there. Kessler was obviously really good as a sophomore but Clingan might be too if he comes back with no Sanogo. NBA draft isnāt about what you are. Itās about what you can be
I think Kessler may be a generational NBA defensive talent. He is today probably one of theā¦three?ā¦most impactful defenders a the most important defensive position (question mark because JJJ spends a decent amount of time as a four).
I think itās fine to say a player will be in that mold, but likely not be as good
Obviously Clingan had a good freshman year and shows a lot of potential. You know who else did that? Hunterā¦who isnāt an NBA player. Kessler was not good as a freshman, transferred, and suddenly showed he was Rudy Gobert on defense. I suspect Clingan is somewhere between Hunter and Kessler as a prospect - which means heās going to be a really good college player but we arenāt sure yet about the NBA. I think he will make it, but Iām not sure heās Kessler.
Thereās probably only a couple of those a year at the richest programs (Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, etc.). I doubt Hunter cleared a mil at Michigan. But he and Sanogo would be projected All Americans and likely get one of those few deals.
Clingan doesnāt have to be as good as Kessler to have someone draft him first round and hope heās the next Kessler. Thatās what we are talking about here. Will he go pro? Where would he be taken?
He feels like the kind of kid who comes back though. Doesnāt seem to be in a hurry or swayed by that sort of thing based on his HS recruitment.
Yeah, he seemed like he values proximity to his family, at least for the time being. That changes (and eventually it probably will have to) but he could want another year.
Clingan would get picked if he entered. Heās already a tier or two above hunter in nba circles
Brian Dutcher thinks the gameās in good shape. Says the tourney shows you donāt need millions in NIL money to thrive.
Doubling up on Atlantis before heading back to Maui is rough.
MSU in 2019 and now 2024.
Michigan last went in 2018, I believe.
Great quotes from Dutcher and SDSU players. Nice to see. Thx for link.
Iām confused why Dutcher, whose rotation contained 4 transfers, is holding SDSU up as an example of not needing transfers
