lol he really thinks he is in position to do this? NBA is probably more annoyed that he’s giving them extra work by having to do an eval for him
Yet akins from msu won’t even get an evaluation.
It was foolish to recruit Frankie in the first place. Hopefully juwan has learned from this. He needs to recruit players who fit his system.
There’s a guy you tamper that ever living something out of right now.
We are gentlemen and follow the unwritten rules.
Jordan has an aura but doesn’t have a magnetic personality. He also seems to be pretty bad at evaluating talent.
I may be biased as a Michigander but I also feel like Jordan isn’t very well liked.
…and he’ll take that personally.
David Stern isn’t around anymore to lend a hand.
David Robinson. Has the temperament, a perfect nickname for a HC, and is one of the best to ever do it.
That or Dennis Rodman. The other team shall have no rebounds!
On what planet?
Surprised you’re so harsh on evanmiya. SQ is gimmicky and clearly flawed in a lot of ways IMO. Evanmiya’s site has way more to it, even if you don’t like whatever his transfer model’s outputs are. He does good work.
If the outputs don’t make any sense, why is it a good model?
I’m not saying it is, specific to the transfer thing. But has site has a lot more to it than just a transfer ranking model.
The game predictions have been profitable and help with betting, his overall team rankings are another variation of KP/Torvik and they’re all helpful IMO.
His player rankings were what I was referring to as bad outputs
Don’t have anything against either Simon or Evan, I just hate when “analytics” is over-marketed without context.
The Shot Quality stuff is bad. I disagree with their methodology to start, and then the way they present the data as “should have won” is just not the right way to think about basketball.
I have only really seen the player rating stuff that Evan does and it seems to be way over-weighted by on/off numbers and seems to usually have some way-off numbers. I feel like a couple years ago there were 4 or 5 Michigan players in his top 15 or something like that. So I am mostly speaking about the individual stuff, but if your main deliverable doesn’t make sense it doesn’t really make sense to want to get into bed with the rest.
I already forget what the deal w Shot Quality is but yeah it has issues that make it pretty irredeemable iirc.
Miya, I’ve talked w him about it. His box score prior really obviously penalizes high usage guards. Believe he’s told me that, basically, regressions of box score stats on adjusted plus minus show that high usage guards have teams w worse plus minus. That’s fine, but that just means your methodology isn’t working properly. You need to figure out how to ding the teammates not the creator.
Also broadly speaking these kinds of models struggle to differentiate between players on the same team bc the sample size and starter % of minutes. Like, if Miya posted the credible intervals on his estimates I bet they’d rarely say you could for sure say player A on team A is better than player B on that team. In which case, you don’t really have a player metric?
Yep. Getting anything meaningful from on/off data is basically impossible in CBB because starters play almost the entire game.
