College Basketball 2021-22 Open Discussion

This is a really solid game to watch as a neutral fan. Maybe not great basketball, but a fun situation all around

Kessler vs. Castleton is a fun other worlds Michigan matchup. Castleton is very good even if heā€™s not really what I was imagining heā€™d become, esp under Beilein. Never developed the jumper at all.

Kessler has become a defensive monster which is unexpected when you watch his highlight vids coming out of HS. Kesslerā€™s reputation as a big who can make 3s never really materialized. I think he has gotten taller and longer than I remembered.

Yeah another big with a weird development. Iā€™m not totally shocked he has rim protection, though am surprised its at that level. But I remember in HS he looked like an NBA level shooting big already andā€¦ heā€™s not that.

Yeah definitely remembered being disappointed that we didnā€™t get him because he was considered a pretty good shooter at 7 feet. Think us getting Hunter has worked out quite well

Not sure if beilein wants to still coach but it looks like Stanford and northwestern could open. Beilein is a great fit at both places and I especially think he would kill it at Stanford.

On paper that does seem like a good fit at Stanford. I just donā€™t see him leaving the Midwest at this stage of his career and I do think some schools are going to wonder how long he will want to keep coaching.

Northwestern just seems like an impossible place to win and a school in the B10. Donā€™t see it.

If Notre Dame opens maybe.

Hereā€™s an interesting one: Butler

But in all seriousness I would guess he would only coach in the Midwest if the job wasnā€™t a huge rebuild. Only so many years left

Feel like thatā€™s a no go because of Lavall? Like he would feel weird taking over for him? But after the Cavs thing I wonā€™t try to explain anything he does

If Northwestern can be competitive in football (a sport with 85 scholarships), they should be able to do so in basketball. They just upgraded Welsh-Ryan. With the right coach I think it can happen. They at least can say theyā€™ve been to the tourney now.

I donā€™t think Beilein is that guy though. Heā€™s getting close to 70 at this point.

I agree it would be fun to see Northwestern with a good hoops team. So much talent in that area and new facilities make it seem like it should be doable but their history sadly suggests otherwise.

John Beilein to NYUā€™s JV team.

I donā€™t think itā€™s very Beilein to care about that kind of thing

Yeah thatā€™s kinda where I started to land as I typed it out lol

Beilein is a fit for the type of basketball program Stanford would need to have to succeed, but about as far from a culture fit you could find for a university like Stanford. Though you could say a similar thing about Michigan too, I suppose.

I have not been on top of college hoops this year outside of Michigan but man you know there were a lot of transfers when itā€™s almost the conference tourney and I still turn a game on and go ā€œ wow, they have fill in the blankā€

Was just looking At Oklahoma st for the first time and had no idea they had Bryce Thompson and Cisse.

Surprised that team isnā€™t better. They have those two plus Anderson , Moncrieffe, and Likeele.

Loved Cisse coming out. Thought for sure heā€™d be a stud.

Scoring is a real problem for them. They went the first 5+ minutes last night without a point and I assume scoring droughts like that have been a common theme. Iā€™ve watched them a few times and they donā€™t appear to have a natural bucket-getter on the roster. Great defensively, though; plenty of long, athletic players. Cisse is a real presence at the defensive end.

Big San Diego State at Boise State game tonight. San Diego St has a real chance to be a Q1 Win if they can win the Mountain West.
