Chances at the NCAA tournament

I think I remember seeing or reading that they do look at other numbers, like average RPI of wins, or at least that they list the RPIs of the teams beat and lost to, to somewhat ameliorate this issue. Though I could be wrong. It’s somewhat of a shorthand that I think they break down further for teams that appear close.

@UMHooopsFan: That’s correct. The team sheets that the committee looks at look something like this I believe.

What do you make of that sheet considering as of now they have Michigan out of the tournament? I think they’re in now but specifically looking at said sheet I can see how they would have Michigan on the outside right now.

It’s all driven by a computer algorithm which I assume includes top 100 wins as a criteria, hence the drop (Michigan was in earlier this week).

I think Michigan needs two more top-100 wins on the resume and it’ll look pretty comfortable. I also think PSU/NCSU winning a few games would help as well.

How about this one?

Seems ridiculous.

You mean the committee won’t even look at the games Boeheim missed because of NCAA violations? If a player is injured they still look at the games he missed right? This doesn’t seem like it’s providing the best incentives or rewarding the right behavior.

THAT is garbage. Or to put it more accurately, nepotism.Of the worst sort. The message: the consequences of having cheated and been penalized won’t owe against you.

P.S. I think we can foresee a turn of events where we are waiting out the last week for the Iowa game to know if we got in.

Thats ridiculous. If they do that they might as well only evaluate Wisconsin by when Greg Gard coached not Bo (Sarcasm)…that is bogus.

That’s why the NCAA is a farce. It’s exactly why Michigan should of never self imposed anything back with the Webber stuff

We are better than we are playing.

Big 10 you need to get about 10 win in conference to make the tourney and you’re almost a lock to get in the tourney.

Besides Caris, MAAR and Walton, these guys need to learn to have a dribble drive game. The whole team is spot up shooters. I don’t get the love for Dawkins. If he hits then great but he needs to do more then just spot up and shoot. Great he can jump out of the gym. With that kind of athleticism, height and bounce he should be taking the ball to the hoop more, drawing the D, creating, getting fouled and getting to the line.

That HAS to be incorrect.

Still need two more wins minimum, and if those two are NU and @OSU (our two easiest games left), we will probably still be on shaky ground come selection day. We either need three more wins, or two, with one against an upper tier team (Purdue at home probably being our best shot) to feel confident of a spot. Despite our problems, we are still the clear choice if a 6th Big Ten team is taken, but that’s by no means assured at this point. Wisconsin and OSU have schedules down the stretch that are as tough as ours, so I don’t see them catching us in the standings unless we go 1-5 or 0-6 the rest of the way.

I have no confidence that we’ll get any kind of a boost in the BT tourney. Our typical pattern is to go 1-1, and that will neither help nor hurt us this time around.

You guys see the Mock Selection that media members are doing right now (can view updates on Twitter)? They have us as one of the last two teams in, playing in one of the play-in games.

Um…not likely…those games are for 16-17 seeds, which we will never be. We will either get in as an 8-10 seed, or be left out. The lower seeds are all taken up by automatic qualifiers from weaker conferences.

Not always. For instance, last year it determined two 11 seeds as well as 2 16s.

There are always 4 at large teams in the play in games.

if it ended today we’d have to be in imo, no doubt but with our schedule down the line and only one lock of a win I could see us falling out of being a lock in the tourney. Talent wise I think we’re better than Ohio st, northwestern,And Wisconsin. Even on the road if we shoot well we can beat those guys even at the kohl center and in Colombus. badgers are playing better but I like our roster all day over theirs especially with Caris. Walton would need to once again bring his a game and outplay Bronson. I think he can and I think Derrick at his best is better than bronsons best, problem is Derrick isn’t at his best consistently. Then Nigel will own Irvin but besides that we got them and can get a quality win on one of the toughest floors in college ball.

We still need another signature win. Today is one of our last good chances in Purdue. Just pray we shoot good and they don’t from downtown. I feel we can really pack it in on them and have success. Also like before Caleb or ones will have to guard Irvin or Dawkins even. In the first match up Irvin didn’t have success. There’s no reason he can’t abuse Caleb or purdues big from downtown or off the dribble. Or at least get the d to shift to him to help leave our shooters open or for other lanes and drives to appeAr. We gotta win that matchup and like I said win the battle from downtown.

Disregard I misread the Vegas line

2 more wins and we are a lock for the tournament. Beat OSU and NW and we should be in the 8-10 range. Beat osu NW and win a game in the tournament 6-8 range.

Lose to OSU, back to playing for our lives going forward.

Going to be an exciting 3 weeks.
