Boston College fires Jim Christian / Howard Eisley a candidate

He also coached half a season with the Cavs. That might be exactly what he wants now.

Myself as well. Brad Davison is a real butthat, right?

I think JB hated the grind of recruiting and is really enjoying his new BTN job.

I recall Eisley saying recently that recruiting was a big adjustment. Assuming he made some pretty good money in his playing days, maybe he doesn’t want the pressure of being a head coach. But if he does, I think he would be an interesting candidate.

Seems relevant here. Tabbs was just suspended for the remainder of the season the same day Christian was fired for violating COVID protocols. He had a good year as a freshman in 2018-2019, missed last year due to injury, and has had a disappointing sophomore year. He’s gone from a 108 ORTG on 22.5% USG to 96.3 ORTG on 26 USG. Pretty much everything in his statistical profile has gone down (19.1 to 13.9 AST rate, 13.7 to 20.4 TO rate, 34.8 to 26.2 FTR, 50% to 42% 2 point shooting) but his EFG% and TS% have remained stagnant (51% and 54%) since he’s gone from a 32% 3 point shooter to a 40% shooter this year.

He’ll probably get some notable interest in the portal even with his struggles this year since he’s a sophomore coming of an injury and is a really good shooter, but we’ll see if this impacts any interest a guy like Eisley has in this job since Tabbs is BC’s second leading scorer.

Also in looking into this I just learned that St. Bonaventure’s HC Mark Schmidt is a BC alum. He’s been at St. Bonaventure since 07/08 and is going to probably make his third tourney this year (which would be the school’s 8th all time). He’s had 6 top 100 teams according to Torvik (including this year) and has a chance at his second top 50 team.

Obviously Eisley’s name has been thrown around and even Beilein’s, but I feel like Schmidt has got to end up being the #1 choice for BC.

So I looked at that and thought, ``oh, that’s not a lot. He’s gonna want to get an HC job."

And then I thought, ``wait. I’m a regular person. That’s actually a ridiculous amount of money."

Juwan made 3x what Eisley did. I imagine if Eisley has put in the work at both the NBA and now NCAA levels then he wants a HC gig and is motivated by much more than money.

Schmidt definitely has achieved more with less talent at St Bonaventure, and probably the front runner

Srsly, the narrative from the second he was hired here was that he would like the BC job someday.

I feel like he’s probably gonna need to do more marketing of himself if he wants a job besides the BC one. Feels unusual that a fairly anonymous assistant gets the job. At least at Michigan, all the assistants who ended up getting head coaching jobs were heavily covered in the media / hyped.

I always worry that colleges feel compelled to hire from the handful of well-known candidates when there may be dozens of great young up-and-comers ready to bring energy and help evolve the game.

It IS a ridiculous amount, but comparatively, by NBA standards, it isn’t. By normal people’s standards it’s insane! Crazy! But it’s the world we live in.

I’ve been following a little bit of the Blake Griffin saga in Detroit. The Pistons can’t trade him because he’s set to earn nearly $39 MILLION next year. They could buy him out, but really, you’re gonna pay a guy $39 million NOT to play for you?!? So, they’ll try to “negotiate” for a lower buyout, like what, $20 million and maybe because he has so much money he’ll take it? He’ll take $20 million not to play?
What? But then the guy who would be writing the check is a BILLIONAIRE so what’s the big deal. That’s “chump change” to him. GOSH, it sucks to be a regular person!

I think Nate Oats is a great example of why more colleges should look at HS coaches. At least as assistants.

At least, Juwan will have Eisley for another season but I think he’ll be a candidate somewhere else. He’s young and knows how to coach guards

Big for Zeb’s development. Will likely get a real summer of Camp Sanderson plus time with Eisley.

are we using this as the general coaching turnover thread? DePaul just fired Dave Leitao
